Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am in the process of writing and posting our 'Family Rules'. Here is what I have so far;

1) No whining
2) A place for everything and everything in it's place
3) One toy at a time
4) There is a time for everything
5) Obey Mom and Dad the first time
6) Always have a cheerful attitude
7) All toys in their homes before bed

Anything I need to add?

Is this for one child or more than one? If it is for more than one, I would put something on there about getting along with siblings. Also, another suggestion, I would combine #2,3,and7 into one rule. With family rules, I have often found that "less is more."    Same thing for the whining and cheerful attitude. If the child has a cheerful attitude, then there won't be whining. Then when the dc DOES whine you can focus on the cheerful attitude and say something like "our family rule is to display a cheerful attitude" and you will be putting a picture in the dc's head of a cheerful attitude rather than a picture of whining. Hope that makes sense???

HTH,
Therese

Maybe something about speaking respectfully (to everyone - parents, siblings, friends, etc.) at all times?

Great rules, I think I need to do this!

I think Therese is right about combining the rules...

And I know in our house, one of the most important rules is the golden rule: treat others the way you would want to be treated...It covers a lot!

We did this a while back -- and you've reminded me that we should do it again as the poster got lost in our house move.

I think you've got a good list but I would try to frame it positively -- ie no. 1 is covered by no. 6. Maybe your dc are a bit more docile than ours, but I found we needed a rule about 'kind hands' ie no hitting and kind words ie no name calling...
