Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am caring for my sister's three youngest children (8, 5 and 3) while she and her husband attend a homeschooling conference in Cincy. They will return on Saturday evening. We don't see these kids very often so they are very excited to be spending this time together. The progress of our day thus far:

One shower before the rest of the house awakens
Five breakfasts (not all at the same time and none for me )
One pee accident by three year old (hers)
One bath
One wet carpet spot, cleaned with Green machine
Two cat vomits
One vomit spot cleaned on ceramic tile
One vomit spot cleaned from carpeting (green machine getting a workout )
Six sets of teeth brushed
Two (wish I could do the strikethrough thing, make that) three loads of laundry
Two herbs potted
One sweet smile from three year old (hers)
One story with five year old (hers), who says I’m always warm
Three mediations
One wounded ten year old (mine)
One lecture about hitting
Four light sabers removed from play
One broken tent
One distraught five year old (mine)
One defensive five year old (hers)
One redirection
One museum trip completely rejected by children.
One dance with five year old (mine)
Several fifteen minute periods of constructive play
Five thousand questions answered (so far)
Hugs too precious to count

Kids are quietly (a relative term) playing. 8 and 10 year old are upstairs; Two five year olds and 3 year old are downstairs. It's 11am. OH MY. I'm putting my flylady shoes on...    Whew!

I'm working on being exhausted too. We're going to need a little more structure at some point. I've put a puzzle out on the dining room table and lunch is in the oven. The rain is interfering with my nature walk plans. If it was a bit warmer we go despite the rain, but at 40 degress I don't want to chill everyone too much.

Ten half pizza bagels in the oven
One quart strawberries, washed and halved
One puzzle on dining room table
One naked 3 yo jaybird walking by, saying "I have to pee"
Two five year old children using scissors, pencils, tape and paper to make money at the kitchen table
Several games of darts (plastic tips!) played and in progress.

Looks like a lot of fun! But I wish we could have met your sister! We are from Cincy but drove to PA today for my 15-yo's karate testing. Where are you in Ohio?

Another update:

Violin practice and demonstration completed. Eight year old (hers) was enthralled; five year old (hers) said, "too many rules".
Three year old finishing off sliced apple.
One no-knead bread second-rising. I'm making a large pot of minestrone soup for dinner. I'm doubling the recipe and I hope it's enough.
Do I have enough bowls?
Thought I should bought more food. These kids EAT.
Will I get arrested for taking pictures of the cutest little blonde three year old in white underpants?
One walk around the neighborhood. Didn't cut it.
Six people into boots; drive to the local marsh.
Find many puddles; throw stones and sticks.
Discussed two different forms of algae in the pond. Noticed increasing rainfall.
Spied interesting bird, yet to be identified. Addendum: a barn swallow
Discussed possible occupants of deep hole.
Carried three year old on my back, back to the car. Walked through puddles. Noted variable waterproofing characteristics of different brands and styles of boots.
Listened to incessant chatter of five year old nephew.
Ten year old (mine) held hands with three year old (hers) on walk.
Drove home. Lectured on absorbent properties of marshland. Audience hissed.
Six pairs of boots off.
Dispensed popsicles.
Threw wet and muddy pants and socks on laundry room floor.
Five year old (mine) demanding some time alone.
Five year old (hers) still talking.
Three year old naked again.

Dinner prepped and eaten (with relish I might add); basement playroom rescued by (mostly) diligent children; bleeding lip tended; put call into sister in law to state previous message indicating we've had no bloodlettings needed to be amended; wonked leg tended after precipitously hanging up with sister in law; kitchen sort of cleaned up; tax accountant husband greeted much earlier than expected (PTL!).

WHEW!
