Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

There is an effort, backed by some ecclesiastical heavyweights, to form a new Catholic college in Michigan.

The College of Saints Peter and Paul

From the mission statement.

"The College of Saints Peter and Paul, in fidelity to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church, educates undergraduate students in the perennial Catholic humanism in which Christ is the model who reveals each man to himself. The life of the CSPP student is formed by the sacred Liturgy, marked by the love of learning, and ennobled by the cultivation of virtue, imagination, chastity and self-donation. Humanity is given the gift of genuine knowledge both by reason which leads to natural truths, and by faith which grants access to supernatural truth. The great dialogue and mutual support between Reason and Faith serve as the foundation for our educational mission and are every student’s birthright. In the tradition of the medieval universities, which unified the best of classical learning with Christian revelation and discoveries, CSPP continues to unify contemporary knowledge with permanent truths. The integrated vision of the unity of knowledge taught in the core curriculum lays the foundation for the reinvigoration of all the disciplines, equips students for pre-professional and masters degree-level institutes and programs, and prepares them to bring Christ to modern culture and daily life."

I am excited because it will be in my own backyard and because we know some of the people behind the effort. It will be well done.

I thought you all would want to know about it.

Looks exciting, Bridget. Is this a replacement for Ave Maria? Have they made any announcement of possible faculty members? That's what I want to see!

Dr. Henry Russell, who is the moving force behind it, was an instructor at Ave. I haven't heard anything about faculty yet. I hear Fr. Fessio is available....

This does look pretty interesting Bridget -- but WHERE is it going to be and when is it going to open?

It's pretty exciting that all these magisterially correct colleges are springing up...... and just in time for my kids too.....

Thanks Jenn -- this is so sad -- whatever the reasons behind it all because Fr. Fessio is so public (as is Monihan) that it will be trotted through the press....

What a bummer ...

Wahoo! I'm in Ontario, so Michigan is "local" enough for us (even though we are a long way off from kids in college). I was extremely sad to hear of Ave Maria's move. I am even sadder to hear of this situation with Fr. Fessio. Ohhh, but maybe, just maybe he'll be available for this...that would be LOVELY!

Bridget, where in Michigan is it? I couldn't find the location on their website...

They are in the fund raising process. All I know is that it will be located in the arch diocese of Detroit. I will probably see Dr. Russell on Sunday. I am hoping I can get more details from him.

Dr. Russell has a lot of good contacts from his years at Ave in Ypsilanti. Also, if you look at the list of their board of advisors, he got some great, Catholic people behind this.

There is really a lot of hope here.

Since we live 40 minutes from Naples I just saw all this on the news today.

Fr. Fessio issued a letter to the local news station saying he is confused as to why he was fired in the first place. It is all very sad to hear. I hope this new position works out for all involved.

I have high hopes (and no reason to doubt) this will be an excellent and authentically Catholic college - those peolpe involved in this project are truly Catholic, loving people. I so look forward to encouraging my son to attend (in like 15 years!)
