Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Well, from the looks of things, the kids and I are going to be visiting Gettysburg National park(?) on Friday June 8th, the earliest we will be there will be about noon to 1pm.

Michele, you mentioned something about meeting us there......are you interested? anyone else?

small chance it would be June 9th, but very unlikely.

Lenten blessings,

Yes Chari that works for me since I really don't think I'll be getting into the IHM conference which is that weekend.

I can't say yes for sure yet but as of right now it looks good.

Cool! I promise I will not hold you to it, Michele!...but, I hope it works out! Put it on your calendar!

As for you, Molly, I was going to ask you, but I thought maybe you would think it was too far. Here is the info I got from mapquest:

Steubenville to Gettysburg
4 hrs 224 mi

We would love to extend our visit with you by having you follow us to Gettysburg.

I am commiting to the 8th as of now. I need to be in NoVA by the am of the 9th, so it is for sure now.

I also saw that Emmitsburg is very close by, but I see the shrine closes at 4:30pm.......way too early if you ask me .........I have to figure a way to get there, too.......maybe I will have to leave Steubenville earlier than I like .....which means I will show up at Gettysburg earlier and leave to get to the shrine in time......sheesh........what is wrong with a 5:30 closure..........works for me!

Anyone else? Kelly, wanna meet up with us? Then, you can change your vote in the poll!

I could, perhaps, be in Gettysburg on June 8.

For what it's worth, IMHO you just can't do Gettysburg and Emmitsburg in the same day. It takes a long time to see Gettysburg...the battlefield is HUGE.

Emmitsburg is very special. You can see one of the important places in a relatively short time ("just passing through" mode) but some of the other spots are spread out around the hills.

Then again, if you try it...you'll just have to come back East again!

Thanks for that info, Nancy......I am trying to see how to do this "right"

....I would rather see some of both, then not at all......but that is not my preference. I hesitate to say I will not be back this way anytime soon, since this will be my second east coast trip in less than 4 yrs....and I thought I was never going to go there

This comment of your may have just planned the next day of my journey (that I am working on....going north from Woodstock, VA)......I may just have to go thru Emmitsburg......it looks like it is on my way

Thanks for your perfect timing! Just what I needed!

Unlike Molly , I LOVE historical sites! I have already ordered our Netflix movies on Gettysburg .

And, I love Elizabeth Ann Seton.......she was one of the first saints I "met" when I converted to the Church....so, I would really like to take my time.

I am so excited that just as I sat down to figure out what was next, I was inspired (distract? ) to check out the active topics.

So, Nancy in Maryland........is there anything in Baltimore that is a must-see??? If I go to Emmitsburg, I may just bypass Baltimore. Just wondering if there is anything in Baltimore "calling" me.....

Thanks!

We have been planning a trip to Gettysburg for the past year but have not gotten there. We may try to join you on June 8. (Not certain yet but maybe !)

Well, Chari, since you ask...

Baltimore offers some great things to do. Top on most people's list is the National Aquarium; I've been to six or seven of the largest aquariums in the USA (still trying for Chicago and Atlanta) and Baltimore is still my favorite. They have a new Australia wing, too.

Historically, you can see the house where the Star Spangled Banner flag was created (short walk from the Aquarium), the USA's first Catholic cathedral (newly restored and lovely, with tours...probably not a good walk for the little ones), and Fort McHenry, where Francis Scott Key watched the battle he immortalized in our national anthem. That one's a drive from downtown. The downtown Inner Harbor area also offers a science museum, the USS Constellation (old Navy ship, sister to the USS Constitution in Boston), and more. (And there's Orioles baseball!!!)

Having said that, and knowing that so many visitors do bypass Baltimore, I also have to say that Emmitsburg is a wonderful day trip; my dd dragged us there (at age 8) after we read Joan Stromberg's book, "Kat Finds a Friend" about Mother Seton. I can't tell you to pass it up...it's a lovely place.

Sorry to make your choices more difficult!

Sounds like fun. I will have to check our availability for that and the shrine date.

Just checking in as I plan my trip:

Okay, Kelly, Nancy, Michele, Rebecca (I would love to see you TWICE on the trip ), and anyone else (I know this is NOT Molly's time to come).....anyone have an idea if they can make it?

If so, I will pm my cell phone number and email address to you so you can catch up with me on my trip, if you need to wait till the day gets closer. Then I will know who to look for. Maybe we can exchange?

June 8th, we will be there by 1 pmish at the latest....and I am not sure how long we will stay as my dh decided to fly into Dulles at 5 pm....cutting it a bit close

I will try to leave Molly's as early as possible, so I can have even more time at Gettysburg.

Blessings!

Chari,

Does this mean you won't be at IHM Conference for Friday? I was thinking of going, but that's the day I was going to browse the vending tables.

You know, Jenn, I was thinking of going with Mary Chris, on Saturday to the conference...but then I realized how silly it sounded to leave my husband who just flew across the united states to be with us for only 7 days of a two month trip. I have not told MC yet (I am working on an email, MC). He was okay with it, but I did not want to disappoint him. It is our first REAL family vacation time, ever, I THINK....that did not involve a family reunion

So, we are going to Gettysburg on Friday and to Monticello on Sat .

You hardly ever get the conference, only two days a year....but, Gettysburg is ALWAYS going to be less than two hrs from your home (unless you move)...so,, you should go to the conference.....unless, you want to do BOTH

Either way....I WILL meet you IRL before the end of this trip!

Now, off to trip planning, yet again
