Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Jenn's thread a few months back was a real font of wisdom for me about the spiritual aspects of this stage of life. Thank you so much, Jenn, for starting that one.

For various reasons, I don't have anyone in my family to lead me through the physical aspects of this stage of life. Can anyone recommend a good book? Any thoughts?

I am finding that I now have to make a concentrated effort to take care of myself, or there is a toll to pay. I haven't ever had to do that, before, and I guess it's not a bad thing... but it is tough to find the time.

These are good years, an exciting time. I feel blessed to be in this phase of life. But, I would like a better understanding of the physical changes, and wellness in general at this stage.

Thanks, ladies. I am so grateful for this forum!

I remember being in my 20's and thinking, "I don't need to worry about what I eat now because I'm healthy and fit. I'll worry about it later."

Well.....it's later and I regret all the bad food habits I cultivated all these years! I also used to be able to do minimal exercise to keep fit and stave off weight gain. Not anymore! Looks like I'm going to have to put in some real workouts!

Can't wait to see the resources these wise women can share.

I was going to post a similar question, Juliana. I was just thinking about how pre-menopause and post-menopause bodies need some different things. One thing for sure I need to know is vitamin recommendations.

I'm glad the spiritual aspect helped. But I have to say I'm clueless as to what would be good to read. I know a few years back Dr. Lee and Mary Shoman books were supposed to be helpful, but I don't know if they are still "approved".

Right now my focus has been on "real food" and I have been slowly converting my home and family on this eating style. I stress "slowly" because I am only making even choices...not putting out lots of money to change pots and pans and plastic. But I am more aware of GMO and plastics and other ingredients that wreck havoc on hormones...like I need any help there!

Same here, Jenn. I'm going to look at a bookstore this weekend and see if I come up with something, if noone else has any suggestions...

Will keep you posted if I find anything!
