Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I think that I have officially gone through "The Change". I haven't had a period in over a year, I am having hot flashes (not horribly), I have gained weight especially around my middle. I want to learn more about this "new me", what to expect and what to do. I went to the library and came home with a book called The Wisdom of Menopause It was full of feminism and new age stuff. There was some good info there but I had to sift through so much junk, I don't want to risk it again.

Do any of you have some good books to recommend?

I just turned 47, some how I thought my perimenopause was going to be longer -sigh-

Thanks,

I'll be interested to hear any responses. I've been in perimenopause for the last 2 years at least, but my periods are closer together and heavier. I just started the hot flashes and night sweats about 4 months ago. I just turned 48.

A friend of mine is in a similar situation and we're constantly blaming every little mood swing on menopause! I cry nearly every day over something, especially movies! doesn't even have to be a sad one - I cried in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, when the dad used the monkey translator to say his feelings!

Natalia and Karen, I too would like some good book recommendations. Natalia, you are right about being in no mood to sift through books...to have to "translate" into a Catholic view. I'm going to talk with a health care provider on Thursday. I'll ask her if she has any ideas.

Ladies, if we don't get any book recommendations, perhaps this is a book that needs to be written?

Love,

Great topic! I agree, we need good health books for Catholic women...

I know what you mean, Natalia. I'm trying to stay away from all that New Age, but that holistic health permeates everything.

Two books/authors come to mind.

Dr. Lee's books are very helpful, but they do depend a lot on the progesterone cream. My own doctors agreed with much of what he said, except the cream. They say the negative side of the cream is that there is no even dosing, and your body fat can store it, so it is distributed unevenly.

Not directed at menopause, but I'm really finding much help and a lot of things make sense from Pete Egoscue. His Pain Free is really helping me. After getting out of chronic, he has a wonderful routine, and his Pain Free for Women: The Revolutionary Program for Ending Chronic Pain has some very good sound approach on women.

....or should I say " "? Natalia, I am so glad someone posted this thread.

Up until last Sept. I had regular cycles almost every month and then they just quit. It has been 9 mos. and the hot flashes started up right away. I'll be 50 in a month.

No, I haven't found a book specifically about menopause but I went on the Fat Resistance Dietafter Michelle Q posted it on Goodreads last year. I caution you that I followed it *very* closely except on Sundays and I am still surprised about how much belly fat melted away. I am feeling much better without the inflammation too.

Just a few days ago I restarted my twice daily dose of Evening Primrose oil (2 and 1) and I do seem to be having fewer and shorter hot flashes.
