Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

for menopause. And I am ready (anything is better then endometriosis and fibroids). But my last you know what was in October and I have no other menapause symptoms! I thought hot flashes and mood swings should be here? I know it probably wasn't my last pd. in October, but is menapause all that bad as the legends? Or should I be ready for a roller coaster ride around the corner?

Barb,

I don't know. I suspect that, like morning sickness and menstrual woes, the symptoms of menopause vary greatly from person to person. I am almost 52 and am definitely approaching menopause, but my symptoms (so far) are quite mild. (I am not complaining.) I don't know if things will get more difficult or not as I get closer to the end. I hope not!

Inquiring minds want to know -- do the symptoms of menopause get worse as a woman approaches the actual end of fertility?

In Christ,

I'm with you - as long as it is mild I won't complain! But, I'm so used to knowing when my period will come (I was VERY regular) that the concept of perhaps being caught off guard on day with it is wierd to me!

Barb,

One thing I have found is that when a period is late or missed altogether, the late or next period tends to be worse than usual. I have invested in some of the new Infinity pads for those ones!

I too used to be very, very regular and have only started being irregular in the last year or so.

In Christ,

OK - so many web sites and books on menopause. Anyone reccommend trustworthy sites or books?

I have heard that about 1/3 of all women have basically no symptoms to speak of, about 1/3 have mild to moderate symptoms, and about 1/3 (including my lucky self ) have severe symptoms. So if you're not having any of the more difficult symptoms, just be thankful! Several of my friends have had no troubles, at the most just heavy flow and irregular cycles, but no hot flashes, sleepless nights, bruising, exhaustion, mood swings, scattered thinking,....

I found a very informative book on the subject by Dr. Susan Love Menopause and Hormone Book, Making Informed Choices. It answered a lot of these types of questions for me.

is bruising really part of it??? I have always bruised easily but for the last few months I look like something someone used for a punching bag (legs and arms) I had a partial hysterectomy but still have my ovaries and I believe I am heading into menopause now (I am 46) It has really bothered me about the bruising, but I have been taking my vitamins....

Also mood swings and not hot flashes but just feeling warm all the time have also been going on for the last few months...

God bless,

I'm glad this came up. I turned 45 in November, and except for one or two brief episodes of breakthrough bleeding, have had no cycles for a year. Perimenopause started when I was about 41, with the suddenly irregular cycles and a host of other symptoms. I keep thinking that 45 is awfully young for it all to be over, but really it's been going on for years . . .

You can have a whole gamut of symptoms, from really mild to really severe, just like pregnancy symptoms (as someone else already said!). I keep hoping that being "through" it all will mean settling out somewhat, physically and emotionally. I'm sure my family probably hopes the same thing.

Anyway, I keep reading the late-pregnancy threads, and rejoicing with those mothers who are able to keep having babies this late in the game, but I'm glad to have some menopause conversation, and to know that I'm not the only one around here! I'm in that "severe" 1/3, too, which I didn't realize until I took some quiz, which told me my symptoms were awful. I didn't think I felt too bad, until I read that.

Thank you, ladies. Maybe it's kind of pathetic to say so, but you really made my night.

After my hysterectomy several years ago, my bruising seems to have increased. I still have one ovary, so I don't need any supplements, but I was told that I would not experience menopause. At 48, I don't have any symptoms.

OOO, I am so comforted to read this. I have scatter brain, and forget so easily. If it is not on a list, it isn't happening! Must check out the Infinity supplies...my cycle used to be every 32 days, now shortened to 26...lost a week of freedom!

It does vary so much from woman to woman. I had a period in October 2008 (at age 47) and then only one day of light spotting last February. I thought I was done but then started a period on Christmas Eve! They have been sporadic for over five years, further and further apart and much lighter. I have hardly any symptoms...I've had maybe three hot flashes in all that time. My mother didn't have many symptoms either.

I have heard Dr. John Lee's books are good. I hope that is the right name. The books are called What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause and What Your Doctor May Not Tell You about Menopause.

I am going through some definite changes at 43.....longer periods, heavier bleeding, I look four months pregnant when I have my period...miserable. I am trying to find a new OB GYN...I hate having to do that, but feel I must.

I also am a big fan of the Infinity pads....the overnights are a must....you can get them at Costco WAY cheaper than anywhere else.
