and there are no more babies in sight, it is a strange feeling for this mama...
sadness
joy
a little pride, too
a bit anxious about this next phase to come
5 was still a little, little girl.
6 is different. "...I'm as clever as ever"
dare I say it?
Thy will be done.

My baby is eight. EIGHT. No more babies in sight (human sight, anyway). I'm still in the sighing stage.

Yup, mine is turning 7. But, I can still look at her face at times and see that baby. Especially when she is sleeping. Isn't that cool, yet, a little sad?
She occasionally looks "big", especially with those big front teeth coming in....
So nice we can share these thoughts here. Some people think I am crazy to miss those days.

My youngest turns 7 today. I was just thinking so many of the same things as you expressed!
My oldest is 23, so we had a long season of the baby years. I still can't quite believe that they are over

Our baby is 6 and I still carry her around on my hip...definitely missing the cuddly baby thing! Our oldest turns 18 next month ...having a bit of a hard time with that one!

My baby is 7! And I'm right there with you ... I'd love to have another baby but at 48, the chances are pretty slim (altho my kids remind me about Sarah and Elizabeth). God is a loving God and gives us just what we need ... but sometimes I sure do want more than I need!
Prayers and hugs and commiseration!

Our baby turns 13 on Monday...I share so many of the same feelings. Where does the time ever go?
God has sent us one grace-filled consolation in the person of grandchildren! It's incredible to watch your own babies becoming parents, godparents, aunts and uncles! Amazingly, your own parenting takes on an entirely new dimension as you watch one generation of your own precious offspring lovingly interacting with a whole new generation! Life has a way of coming full circle...it's such a blessing to watch the circle of family love get larger and larger, fuller and fuller! Just think, you're not at the end of your nurturing years, you're getting ready for a whole new level of nurturing that is twice as sweet! There's nothing in the world quite as tender and dear as hugging your own child, with their child sandwiched between you! God is so good!

My baby will be 8 in February, and my oldest is now 26. I'm grateful and thankful for every moment with all of them, but I do get twinges when I see friends pregnant! I'm glad for grandchildren!

One birthday phone call Helena received was from a dear friend in her 60's, who never married and has just retired from the teaching profession. She wanted to talk to ME and then proceeded to congratulate ME for giving birth to this child 6 years ago and what a lovely mother I am...
I almost bawled.
Dear Patty, Anne, Willa, Marib, Mary, Servant and Paula,
I have reread your posts so often. I must smile.

Stephanie, I came back to read this timely thread....my 13yo baby's birthday today has begun with so many of the emotions you spoke of in your original post! How very dear and sweet of your dear friend to call you with such thoughtful and encouraging words!!! God bless you and those dear, precious souls He has entrusted you with!

Oh, our baby turned six on Saturday the 5th! Imagine my delight to stumble on this thread.
This month I'm at the end of 12 months of no cycles, too, though I'm only 45. It is all a little bittersweet, though lately I've been much more at peace with the idea of growing up and older with THESE children I've been given.
Aaaaaand to understand the desire for grandchildren . . . though I think I have a while to wait.
Thanks for a good thread.

Oh, my youngest is 7, and she is developmentally delayed, so I get to hang on for a bit! I sometimes miss a baby, but am just loving my other children (17, 12, 10) and their conversations. I think God gives you what you can handle.
I was thinking about Chari's post...making different portions of food, etc. That must be strange, as we are so used to making a lot of food for the family, if not for extra teenage boys who drop in.

Our youngest turned 10 this year! So I'm right there with you. But you know what? I have come to accept this phase. We aren't going to have babies forever...it's not in God's Plan. This life is only a blink, really. It's a drop in the ocean of eternity.
I do look forward to grandchildren, God willing. Our oldest is 25 and is in a religious order. The others are not married, so it will be a while.

My baby will be 12 in just over a week. Wow.
My oldest turns 18 on Candlemas (isn't that a nice birthday?). He is driving and both he and I forget that he knows how...normally I'm halfway through an errand before I realize I could have sent him!
But...one of the blessings of homeschooling is that both of them still want Mom hugs. Every day.

This makes me so happy to hear...my kids are very affectionate and I hope and pray that as they get older they will still want their "cuddles" as we call them in our house!
