Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The printing on the back of the Holy Trader saints cards seems microscopic to me... *sigh*

It hit me last week when I had trouble threading a needle.

I've been experiencing this for a year. My eye doctor changed the prescription in one of my contact lenses, and that has helped immensely!

My husband is two years older than me, so he led the way on this.   I can still read normal print, though with difficulty. I have to ask my kids for help with telephone books and the info on the back of the OTC meds.   My daughter has to thread the needle on the sewing machine, or I have to get my dh's glasses.   My husband recommends the sets of magnifying spectacles at Costco.... not too expensive, comfortable, and so far have done the job for him.   He's turning 47 and I just turned 45!

I will be 45 next month and already have a pair of reading glasses that I rarely use, because they are never handy.
It is comforting to know that I have the company of you lovely ladies!

My doctor laughed (though kindly) and said that on the stroke of midnight on your 40th birthday it all goes down hill....

Except when each eye has a different prescription    .

I'm on my second pair of glasses since turning 40. My dh teased me because he didn't need glasses when he turned 40...but...when he finally did get glasses, he went straight to progressives so now I remind him how I still only have a single lense . Weird .

Love,

I picked up an interesting looking book in the library last week, took one look at the print size and put it straight back . I have vari-focals (maybe what Angie calls progressives?) but find I have to take my glasses off to see small print or thread a needle.

At least at 47 I am doing better than my dh is at 50. He has already had two cataracts removed and is waiting for laser treatment on one eye where the cataract is growing back

I can see normal print with my normal glasses but, when I wear my contacts I have to use reading glasses to see the small print. I ended up buy two pairs. I keep one in my purse and the other around the house. To finish the "old lady look" I even bought a chain to hang the glasses around the neck to keep them handy! Of course I don't dare take THAT pair anywhere outside the house

I had to laugh tonight, when I got home from a very long day at work, and found a beautiful Christmas picture card from my dear friend Willa..........and I could not see their faces.......I had to take my glasses off to see it. I keep forgetting I cannot see!

BTW, thanks for the prayers for my day, Willa.............they worked!!

Anyway........just thought I would mention that I thought of all of you tonight

Ladies, I've been using OTC reading glasses for awhile and recently found them at the dollar store. They had many different styles and strengths and since I'm famous in my household for losing my glasses I decided to stock up. I remembered a picture in a decorating book by Mary Engelbreit of a bowl full of various kinds of reading glasses that she kept handy because she and her husband were always misplacing theirs. I chose several different types and now have them placed strategically all over the house...one by each phone and in prominent places in each room. I chose styles that are a little goofy...I figured my husband and boys can get a good laugh when they see me in flourescent stripes, gaudy flowers or metallic space age frames! I'm hoping to become an eccentric, fun-loving old lady and I think I'm well on the way!

Sigh...this is my year for bifocals and a partial plate. My eyesight is going and my teeth are falling out...alas. On the bright side, I think I can start officially nagging my older kids about grandchildren.

My reading glasses hang on a pretty chain around my neck most of the day....sigh...I need them for sewing, smocking, phone books, medicine bottle directions, menus,....most everything

I'm thinking it's almost time for no-line bifocals with no correction for distance, but reading correction in the lower portion of the lens.

Me too. Baby number 8 often plays with my reading glasses. Never wore glasses before. Never thought I needed them...even when I went to use the magnifying glass to read some fine print. (Obviously they just printed unreadable letters!) My husband took me on a date to the pharmacy and we had a wonderful time trying reading glasses on me.
Me: These are a little loose.
Hubby: They're not for motor cycle riding.
:o)

It's a bit of revenge on us ladies...laugh. When I finally had a few extra moments to dive deep into a book, the print would get all blurry on me and I'd have to stop. With no one around needing me to do something, I sat one whole summer unable to continue reading for pleasure for the first time in my married life! Yep, needed reading glasses, especially when I began to read too much! Dear me...now I wear them well and read often whenever possible.

Chari - how are you adjusting to the bifocals?
I have an appointment scheduled on May 7th for an eye exam. I'm thinking no-line bifocals, as I need the reading correction more and more...like for almost everything I look at.

Chari - I just returned from my eye doctor - I have on order...a pair of progressives (ouch they were so expensive and I didn't even go with the favored Vera Wang frames) and I got my prescription reading glasses cranked up a bit for my smocking and embroidery work. I can't wait to get them in...about 7 days.

Has anyone tried Zenni Glasses? A local friend and 4Real member recommended this site on a local list.

Love,
