I am ever-so-slowly recovering from the delivery (4 days ago ) of Gianna. She is our sixth and it just seems I do not have the "get up & go" I had a few times ago. As a matter of fact things just plain HURT from the abdomen on! I don't remember this with the others (maybe it's the memory from the age and not the body issues )! At any rate, I am wondering if your recovery took longer as you were older with the deliveries? Oh, I should also mention she was almost 10lbs!!!

Joelle, I had two over 10 pounds and they were the hardest to recover from. I hope you are feeling better soon and congratulations!

I think I was always "older" ...
I had my first at age 33, my next at 36, my third at 42 (and a number of miscarriages in between) and it took me forever to recover each time! But, I would say that those 10 lbs. probably have something to do with the way you're feeling, too.

Congratulations, Joelle! Take it slowly and allow yourself to rest. I don't know whether the discomforts are age-related or just that each birth is different, but I wouldn't think twice about getting a little extra rest following the delivery of such a big baby!
Peace,
Nancy

At 4 days post partum, I wouldn't even think twice about it, whatever the cause. If you still feel this way after 4 weeks, then worry about it! For now, just go take a nap with your new daughter! Congratulations!

I agree that only 4 days postpartum it's hard to tell. Take it easy and don't expect too much!!!!!

I had my first at 20, my second at 37, and my third at 40.
I bounced back at 20, dribbled at 37, and now am just trying to shoot.
Congratulations!

Congratulations Joelle!
I had my 5th little one two weeks ago. I am 39 years old - and I am finding the postpartum recovery long and tough! I did not have a c-section and my little guy was only 5lbs 12oz - but I have had a lot of afterpains and general aches and pains. Also have been much more tired than previous deliveries - and finding it harder to get back to "normal". I feel a little wimpy - especially given that my baby is a real angel - and also we have been so blessed to have so many people bring us meals etc - I feel I should not be feeling so tired! The good thing is that the little guy nurses well and has put on 2lbs in 2 weeks - but may explain why I am feeling wiped out

Congratulations, Joelle!...and a reminder that around days 3-5 post partum, many women experience a drop in "happy hormones" that makes everything feel a bit harder, a bit more teary . This too will pass. Now go rest, be patient with yourself, and love that baby Gianna up .
Love,

Thank you all so much, it helps to know others have been where I am now (which is nine days post-partum and still wiped out ). However, God is good and has sent so many lovely friends with meals and many have taken my toddlers and even olders for afternoons and overnights. I do notice the "happy" hormones are gone, though and started to feel discouraged about not "bouncing back" until I read the nice posts--so thank you all again!
