I saw this book Carved in Sand: When Attention Fails and Memory Fades in Midlife somewhere, so I put it on hold at the library. When it came in to the hold shelf, I forgot to go pick it up and it disappeared from my queue. I eventually realized (what a miracle!) this mistake but could not remember the name of the book to request it again .
Some creative combinations of search terms eventually yielded the correct book, and I have it on hold again
Soooo......has anyone read and gleaned anything useful (or even memorable) from this book?

No Gwen, but if I remember to ask you after you remember to pick it up and read it, will you give us a review

Thanks for a great laugh, Gwen!
I've been thinking lately that there is a downside to having children after age 40. I can't seem to remember my baby's name! I cannot tell you how often I call her by my 4yo dd's name. It's as if I cannot re-program my brain to think of my youngest by a new name at this stage of the game.

Oh dear, Irene, me too. I called my youngest by my eldest's name today, had this vague feeling that something was wrong, but couldn't work out what

Too funny!
Often when I go to call one of my kids, I end up going through the whole list in random order. "Come here, Sam! I mean Eddy! No, Jenny! Umm, Emily. Wait.. Trish! And now I throw in the grandkids names, too!
My children tease me and call it "the litany of the kids."

Will you all just please stop ! I'm supposed to be paying bills and all sorts of other desk stuff that I would rather not be doing...just too funny!
Our family fondly refers to my Palm as my "brain." If it isn't on the Palm, it isn't happening .

Yeah, me too. But then my 2 yo forgets who I am too and calls me "Grandma." It's like a routine we go through every time dgd is here: Grandaughter: "Grandma, can I come in?" Daughter: "Grandma, can I come in?" Me: "Yes, but my name is Mom." Daughter: "Oh, O.K. Mom."

I could see advantages to that Angie...like you could actually say, "I'm sorry I can't remember, I forgot my brain." (I must be getting loopy.)

Well, I'm only 33, and my dear Patrick has been called Johnny so many times in his short 10 weeks of life that DH insists we should have named him "Johnny Patrick!"
Someone wrote into Dear Abby or some other advice column about the "litany of the kids." (I love that name, btw ). She felt her mother didn't really love her because it took her several tries to get to the right name . I'm the last of 7, my name was NEVER first, and it didn't ever occur to me that it might be because my parents didn't love me!

Oh, how I love hearing I'm not the only one! I've been mixing up my oldest ds's and husband's names for years (maybe because they're both taller than me)! LOL
Really, though, I sympathize with the sudden over 40 forgetfulness. Think I'll check our library for that book tomorrow!

Frequently when my dc ask me a question, my response is, "Yes, but would you please tell me your name first."
Peace,

At least it isn't the other way around--calling the children by the dog's name!

Ummm ... I think I've done that. Except it's a cat.
And, don't feel too bad, ladies ... it even happens to my 13 yo, who has occasionally called me "Daddy."
