Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

One of my sisters was born on this day (way back in the 60's ).

My mother had pregnancy complications and bleeding and was transported to the hospital in the only emergency vehicle available- a fire truck! She knew she was in trouble and asked Our Lady for help (these were the days before 911). Our Lady sent the neighborhood firemen.

Both my mother and the baby survived, surprising everyone, as there was a major problem with the placenta. My father's parents had been having some marriage difficulties at the time, and my grandmother promised Our Lady she would go back to her marriage and work out the problems if my mother and sister survived (which she did- they were together until my grandfather passed away in the late seventies).

Anyway- I could not let this day pass without mentioning this wonderful story. Today I called and wished my sister- Kathleen Mary- a happy birthday. Thank you, Blessed Mother!

But wait- now there is more! In talking to my sister this morning, she mentioned she had sent me a card with a check in it to buy presents from her for my dc. She was sick, busy at work, didn't know what to buy them, etc.

Today the card came- it had been ripped open, the card taken out and jammed back in, and my husband jokingly said it had been "pre read". I panicked- thinking of her check. I was thinking she had sent me something like $10 each for the kids. But no- she had sent a check for $100. And it was still there.
