Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have begun my renewal preparation and my 9 yo daughter is very interested in making a Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary.

What age is appropiate?
Is there a book for children?
I am already in day 6 of the prepation week, is it too late for her to join me? My Consecration anniversary is February 11, the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. My daughter is Bernadette, so I think this would be a very appropiate day for her to make her Consecration.

Jenny, children have the ability to give themselves in a very sincere and beautiful way to their Blessed Mother at a very young age, your daughter's age sounds like the perfect time for her if she is showing such interest.

Here is a thread in the past that may interest you.

I have personally used Leading the Little Ones to Mary - some of it may be a little young for her but DON'T be put off by that as it 'deepens up' throughout it and whatever you think could be reworded for her age, you can improvise easily as you read to her, as I've done it! In fact my main time to read this book to my children is from 4 - 10.

Also I would recommend the reading of
St Louis de Monfort the Story of Our Lady's Slave - this is an inspiring book (to adults too!) and this has been one of my favourite read-alouds with my 8-13 aged children, this is a book to enjoy and learn together with.

Also, there is Mary's White League - there is a book and tapes (maybe they have been updated to cd? you would have to contact them) and it leads children through a consecration to their Guardian Angel, The Heavenly Father and The Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Considering time is running short for the feast which is obviously very special to you both and it is also the 150th anniversary this year, if I were you, I would go ahead with a consecration and I'd read the novel I mentioned together and start on the Leading the Little Ones to Mary and do a novena to Our Lady especially together to help her prepare for her own consecration.

I feel that since there has not been alot of time for deeper preparation that continuing on with these programs afterwards would be important.

Jenny, I wanted to come back and say that in the Leading the Little Ones to Mary, the children say a simple daily consecration prayer to Our Lady:

"Holy Mary I want to belong to you. I give you my whole self and all the good things I do,

at home
at school (at schooltime - my improvising)
in church
on the playground (when I play - my improvising for homeschooling family)

My Mother, I am all yours, and all I do belongs to you."

Adults who consecration renew their consecration every day in some similar, simple way - my husband says, "Oh Jesus it is for the love of you, for the conversion of sinners and reparation for all the offences committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I am all Thine, My Queen and My Mother and all that I have is Thine" I make my morning offering a renewal of this consecration, but there all similar wordings to what is written for children above, I say, "I offer my prayers, words, works, joys and sufferings." in part of my renewal and prayer, so they are very, very similar.

This learning of the children's consecration prayer starts on the third day talk in Leading the Little Ones to Mary so it is not late to start this book leading up to the feast and having your daughter do something special in consecrating herself to Our Lady on the 11th.

Thank you so much for your replies Anne. We have read St Louis de Montfort together. We read it last year, maybe in the fall? and she started asking then about making the consecration. I do think I will take your advice and let her make it now. I will begin to include her in my preparation renewal.

Thank you again!
