Alice had a beautiful post on Consecration to Mary. I just saw this today and was wondering if I could start it today? A day late?
Thanks!

I'm trying again, and just started this morning. I woke up at 4 with Consecration to Mary nagging at my brain for some reason. I meant to start yesterday and forgot!
Last time I got derailed after the first 2 weeks because of travel, etc. I hope to complete the Consecration this time.
Let's pray for each other, shall we?

Okay, another question. Does anyone feel just so unworthy to do this? Like I just can't possibly live up to this important of a endeavor?
I'm definitely praying for all of you!

All the time!!!
I think Alice's Cottage of Loreto can really help to keep us all on track with the prayers. (She's posting the consecration prayers daily and they come to your email address.)
Just keep trying to do what you can -- Our Lady will help with the rest.

This site has all the readings and prayers in one place. This also could be helpful.

It's pretty ironic that after almost 10 years of marriage to dh ... he does this every year and every year I THINK about doing it and forget .... he usually does it so it coincides with Visitation in May and that's one of the most hectic times in the year ...
I think this will be the year I actually do it as it fits nicely with my life right now! But, yes, lets all prayer for each other -- especially about not stressing out too much if we can't measure up ... all in God's good time!

Helen, the above site you mentioned has different prayers along with what Alice has at Loreto Cottage. What's the difference? Just curious. I'm following Alice's daily emails--thank you, Alice!!!

This thought has been going through my head so much lately! I'm in the last week of preparation with my Consecration day on Nov. 11th. I didn't really pick that day -- I just kept having to start over after a day or two of the 33 week prep because I'd miss too many days. So now I'm in the last week and I keep thinking, "How can I really be ready??" (As a matter of fact, some of the struggles for patience and other virtues have been worse this week than in a long time!) St. Louis de Montfort's Prayer to Jesus that he lists for the last week of preparation is so much beyond where I'm at. I say it and try to say it well, but feel that I am so lacking. All that said, I also remind myself and take comfort in knowing that Mary and Jesus know that I'm trying. That I'll fall, and that I hope to get up again with their grace. Please pray for me too! I'm praying for all of you.

K.C., from looking at my copy of True Devotion, I see that Alice's emails correspond to what is contained at the end of True Devotion.
True Devotion to Mary wrote:
Prayers to be said every day: Veni Creator and Ave Maris Stella.
Suitable reading for the twelve days: Gospel according to St. Matthew, chapters 5, 6, 7.
Imitation of Christ, Book I, chapters 13, 18, 25, Book III, chapters 10, 40. |
|
|
I think the other site breaks down the readings from a 12 day suggestion to a daily suggestion.

Janette - this is such a beautiful example of perseverance!
I think you should be encouraged by your struggles with patience. Anything reallly worth doing will be tested, tried and purified! You must be on the right track and doing very well.

I just decided to do this the other day..I am pretty sure I did it once before several years ago. The consistency of my prayer life is the hardest for me right now as I have so many "Monastery Bells" to answer...
I was so excited to find that several of you were doing it too! I will pray for you, my friends!
God love you!

Helen, I get it!!! I was thinking that we were in the first week, but we're not. It's the prepatory first 12 days. Can you tell the kind of week I've been having?

I am also making this consecration now as well. I have tried so many times but always get lost along the way. Our life is so stressful now that I really feel called to make the consecration at this time. I was encouraged to find out that two of my friends were also making the consecration ... and one, like me, also struggles to make it to the end!
It is helpful to know that so many of you will also be praying. I will pray for all of us as we journey together!

This is my second year to do the consecration and this year my dd is joining me. SHE was the one to put it on the calendar...or I would have forgotten . How fortunate am I?
I look forward to the day (God willing) when I can do this consecration as beauti-fully as the potential it holds. For now, my only choice is to do it as well as I can (even if it lacks) or not do it at all. My thinking is that since I feel called to it, if I can watch my heart, stay humble, and honestly look at what I'm doing now as habit formation in the hopes of future improvement then that's better than not doing it at all. If that day never comes, I will be glad to have at least tried. I hope I'm right and that I'm not bringing dishonor through my fumbling attempts.
I'm glad we're in this together ... and I'm praying.
Love,

Thank you all for your replies. It's comforting to know I'm not alone in my doubts. I'm still praying.
Has anyone ever gone through the whole process and not made the consecration at the end?

Our parish priest has the books available for the parish every year. We consecrate our parish and our parish families on December 8th. I did it several years ago. This year, dh and I are both going to try to do it. So far, we've done well.
hope we don't get derailed.

Helen, Thank you so much for the encouraging words!
This evening as I prayed the Consecration prayers, St. Louis de Montfort's Prayer to Jesus brought tears to my eyes (for the first time). It is such a beautiful prayer. Today, I finally feel joy and deep gratitude at the opportunity to consecrate myself to Mary.
Angie, what your insight really touched me. All that we can do is our best, in humility, and know that it will be enough. Isn't part of the fruit (I don't know if that's the right word) of the Consecration that Mary will take what we lovingly and faithfully offer and will "polish" it and make it a pleasing offering to the Lord? At least I think that's right. And that thought brings me great comfort and joy. I *love* your use of "beauti-fully." I hope that I finish this Consecration, and that I renew it each year. And that each year, I will more "fully" live that preparation. That is my hope and prayer.
