Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

A few years ago I bought some old PE locker baskets that were discarded from an old school. These are wire mesh baskets, very handy, but they are wire, and not beautiful. 8 inches deep, 12 inches by 8 inches, with a little taper to the bottom. Plus the metal is starting to rust a little, leaving marks on the things inside and outside.

I need some advice. Would painting help this? I was also thinking of creating a fabric liner, but also a outside cover, maybe contained together. I'm having a hard time conceptualizing it, and wondering if I'm over my head on this project!

I have 6 or 7 of these! I like them but I just left them all rusty - it fits in with the "character" of my decorating! I use them all over the house -- one for medicines in the bathroom, one for my hats and gloves in the front hall closet, one for cleaning rags in the laundry room, etc.

I would think it would be easy to make a liner for them. I just never thought of it!

they have a rubber sort of thing for covering handles of tools and such.. I think you have to dip them in it? but you could probably find it at auto supply or farm/ranch supply stores.. that would cover the wire on all sides.. not necessarily making it pretty though.

Or come to think of it.. they do have spray paint for metal to protect from rust.. thoughn I would think the paint might scrap off pretty easily.

I bet if you got some heavy duty Rustoleum type paint--maybe even for appliance grade?--where the paint was made for more heavy-wear applications...it wouldn't be that difficult. If you spray painted the entire thing, it wouldn't take too much paint, and then you could add a liner if you wanted. It would look really pretty painted white with a stripe or a floral liner, depending on how/where you would plan on using them...at least, those colors would work in my house, lol.

Oh, the rubber coating stuff is a dip application. If you used a rubber coat on the bottom only, where it would be likely to rub against surfaces, and match the color of the dip coat to the paint you used, then it wouldn't show, and would also keep the paint from wear and tear.
