I am going to attempt to start a sewing club with my 3 oldest daughters to try and encourage the 2 yougest ones to wear skirts. I used to make them matching dresses before the boys came along, so wish me luck!

Are there any easy patterns you recommend?

My 18yo dd has been making this easy skirt for herself and her sisters and her friends for years, invented by homeschool girls, who would be happy to help you by phone.......or maybe even in person....she lives in VA, too! Where are you? She is in No. VA

I have made simple a-line, elastic waist skirts for my daughters for the past 2 years. The exact same skirt as this one, but smaller of course. And, theirs are not as long. I make my own pattern based on their measurements. It's very easy.

It's a fine-wale-corduroy. Joann Fabrics has all their corduroy and heavier fabrics on sale now for 60% off.

A friend of mine in Atlanta is just learning to sew and I told her we could do a "sew-along" for this skirt. She would be making one for her daughter (age 8) and I would probably do another one for me. I'd post info on measuring out the pattern and post pictures of how to sew it up.   

Maybe I'll post a couple pictures up of my dd-6, in her skirts so you can see what they look like on a smaller person.
