Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Can anyone recommend a knitting machine that a 10yo girl could use? I saw one in the Highlights catalog but it looked kinda cheap. Thanks!

Jennie -- most of them are a bit chintzy unless you get a real one. The crank machines are more trouble than their worth. And all you get at the end is a big tube. The knitting looms -- whether oblong or round -- are pretty limiting in what she could make. Does she need a knitting machine? I ask as although it seems like a good idea, I've yet to see a good one that is under a few hundred dollars. The Ultimate Sweater Machine is probably the best of the low-end "machines".

Can you get her great knitting tools instead? It would be better for her to learn to knit -- spend the money getting a variety of tools or a needle kit like Knit Options. It's like art supplies -- might as well get the best standard supplies you can afford rather than buying kits or pre-packaged sets.

Just my $.02....

Mary, thanks for your reply and the links. No she definately doesn't NEED a knitting machine. We keep gifts really simple and meaningful and I don't want to get her something that will be broken or boring too soon. Unfortunately good tools would be a little boring for her if there isn't some built-in "flare". Hmmm. I'll keep thinking. Thank you for your feedback.

Oh I agree about those crank things. My dd got one for Christmas last year and it was a frustrating piece of junk! I got her the Knifty Knitter set instead but like Mary said it's rather limiting so in the end I got her needles and taught her to knit (which I had just relearned myself after 20 some years).

I whole heartedly agree! I have the Options set and love it. I also have the Denise set which I like as well and am giving to my dd for Christmas.

Jennie, I have to agree those machine are'nt worth your time. My dd's 10,9, 7 all knit, they have for about 3 years, and they love making gifts for each other, their dolls, and friends. They even have a knitting club, it is adorable really about 10-15 little girls sitting in a circle knitting away, and telling all their deepest secrets. At times it is hard for me not to laugh    One little girl came to tell us all something"shocking" gasp!! Her mom is going to have a baby    I was cracking up.....why am I telling you all this??? Actually no idea except like Mary I am a knitting junkie and I love to get others "hooked"
