Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

If you are really into food and nutrition, National Geographic has a very informative graph to peruse and compare...
I found this through Like Mother Like Daughter.

Check out their other Bits and Pieces over there. I wonder how they find all these interesting tidBITS.?

I don't agree with the categories, as all fat is not bad for you. Lumping all fats with sugar doesn't really give an accurate idea of what they are eating.

You are right Jenn, that is very misleading.
I was surprised however to see how little produce was consumed in Japan.

If I read it correctly, only vegetable oils are lumped in the sugar/fat category. Animal fats are in the dairy section.

Vegetable oils like coconut and olive aren't bad.....

I was also wondering where coconut and olive oils fit ?

Jenn, there is a dairy section. I have the impression that coconut and olive don't fit into the veg. oil part of the sugar/fat section. If you click on the sugar/fat piece of the pie there is another set of divisions. One small sliver is vegetable oil crops. I understand this to be corn, soy, rapeseed......

Did you notice the bottom bar ending with the year 2011? If you slide
that back through the past you can see how the diets have changed through the years. In the 60's there were countries with next to 0 dairy consumption! Argentina is known for it's beef and one sees it. We Germans eat a lot of pork.
You really have to play around a little to get a good picture of what is going on on this graph.
