Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Maybe I am slow, or maybe this is something new, but I just figured out that the Dollar Tree takes coupons!

And since everything in the store is only a dollar anyway, you can score some major deals. On a recent trip, I got Firefly Hello Kitty toothbrushes (so dang cute) for free, boxes of ziplock bags for fifty cents, bags of Werther Caramel candy for 50 cents each, 3 pack bars of dial soap for fifty cents... it was great.

Of course, the stock at each DT varies widely, so you just have to go in and see what they have. I used the CrazyCoupon Lady's website to get an idea of what I might find there and pull some coupons for my trip. As luck would have it, a nice, big DT was recently built very close to dd's ballet studio, so it was not an extra trip for me- it was a fun way to pass some time. I will use the toothbrushes and maybe the candy in the Christmas boxes we make each year for Operation Shoebox.

On another note, I recently took the time to read through the HSDLA member booklet and was surprised to realize how many discounts you can get by showing and using your HSDLA member card. If you are an HSDLA member, it is worth your time to go to their website and look for the member perks. There is also a forum for selling homeschool items on their site. Really- they have a lot of great resources!

Lastly, I was in Publix yesterday, and I was thrilled to see that at the checkout there were frosted plastic covers over the racy magazine covers (Cosmo, Glamour- and how sad is it that these two mags have spiraled down so far they have to be covered up?) Anyway- I went home and sent a thank you email to Publix for doing this. I wanted to spread the word- if you are a Publix shopper and see this at your store, please thank them! I wish more stores would do this.

We also scored some great free samples at Publix yesterday- Lindor truffles and banana cake covered with chocolate and sprinkles (this was a huge sample that required a plate and fork; I split one with ds).

I know a lot of people think Publix is very expensive, and since ours is new, it has taken me a good couple of trips to figure out how to use my coupons in the best way. I used the Southern Savers match-up yesterday before I went, and I stuck with mostly the BOGO deals. At the checkout I paid $22 and saved $25.... so I felt like I am making some progress, finally.

My best deal:I had a manufacturer coupon and a Publix coupon for Seventh Generation dish soap, and then when I got to the store, I picked up a coupon booklet that had a BOGO coupon for the soap as well. I was able to use all three coupons to buy two bottles for about $1 each (these were not on sale at all). Since most soap gives me contact dermatitis, I was so happy to get a good price on these.

Whew- what a rambling post! Happy Friday!

I had never thought of using coupons at Dollar Tree either. We usually go in for cards/wrap or craft items. I'll have to check out their other aisles. Thanks for the idea!

I went into the Dollar Store today and found For Greater Glory DVDs! They had an end cap full of videos and multiples copies of each. I got extra copies to go into our Parish library. What a find!

Wow- that was a find! I would never in a million years have thought you would find those in a dollar store
