Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi ladies,

Ok, so I've been thinking about this for a little while. I came across Quilts of Valor a few months ago.

I am just a beginner at quilting so I know it would take me forever to make one on my own. I thought it might be nice to invite the ladies of 4Real to work together to make a quilt to ship to them.

Although, I doubt it would be done by Easter; maybe we can start it as a corporal work of mercy for lent?

Who's interested?

Absolutely, count me in. I may need some hand-holding.

Well I'll hold your hand but mine hand is likely to be sweaty. The only quilt I have made so far is a small one I made for my daugter's favorite
stuffed bunny.

Sweaty palms aside I'm pretty excited.

I guess we will probably have to agree on a fabric and pattern.
Any preferences?

I did sent an email to an online fabric shop in hopes that we can get a donation or a reduced rate on fabric. I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. If they say no I could try my nearest quilt fabric store and maybe ship fabric myself?

I dunno I've never done this before. I guess we can just wing it.

What do you guys think of this one? It looks pretty easy. I like easy to follow pictures

I'm still waiting to hear from the online fabric store. If I don't hear from them in the next couple of days I'll try the quilt shop that is near here.

I'm still hoping that more people will want to join us.

I did secure a 10% discount for the fabric

I've done that math and have an order planned out. I just want to be sure you are still planning on helping before I place the order.

Oh that's such a touching thing. I have quilted before children, and sent in patches for sympathy quilts. But I don't do it regularly, our home is relatively small and I don't have a sewing niche/nook so it entails getting everything out. I would like to help though even though I'm from Canada. It will take me longer to ship, is that ok, mail is a little bit slower and likely take two weeks to get there.

I'm not sure if this would work for me. Are you meaning you would mail fabric to people? This would take too long I think to send to me, not to mention the cost to ship to Canada. If you are okay with having me chose my own fabric at my local Walmart I can certainly participate.

That is an idea to consider- we could choose a color theme and then make the blocks without all the fabric being the same. Sometimes that adds interest to the quilt.

asplendidtime I would love to have your help.

Quilts of Valor are pretty picky about the fabric quality they will accept. They want quilt shop quality cottons.

I don't have a difinitive plan yet. I'm still figuring out the details. I have to go pick up my kids from school. They have CCD tonight. Tuesdays are busy here. I'll try to do some brainstorming and get back to you tonight.

My Dh has generously volunteered to take on CCD and pick up something for dinner

I kind of had a loose plan based on the quilt pattern I linked to above.

I had an idea to buy a fat quarter bundle and extra yardage from the same collection to complete the quilt top, the backing and make the presentation case.

This was the bundle I was thinking of going with.

My original plan I thought that would be easiest way to get everyone coordinating fabric at the 10% off price. I wonder if it would be faster for everyone to place their own order and have it shipped directly to them?

FYI Here
is QOV's fabric requirments.

Thoughts?

I like both the pattern and the fabric (being very partial to stars... )

I can understand their strict requirements after reading the link.

What I meant to say was my original plan was to place the order myself because I thought that would be easiest...
Sometimes the brain works faster than the fingers can type.

If you guys PM me your addresses I'll see if I can place the order and see if they will break the order up and ship it seperately. The order has to be called in to get the discount anyway.

I decided to check out the quilt shop a few towns over today. They didn't have the same fabric as the one I linked to, but they had nice fabric. They offered me a discount too. I took them up on their offer.

I'm ready to divy up the loot and ship it. I just addresses...

Yes, I'll happily ship to Canada too.

Ok, I'll send a pm.
I spent the morning cutting the fabric into fat quarters.

Ohhh- got my fabric in the mail, and I love the prints!
Can't wait to get started making my blocks

When my dd was sick, she received a blanket made by some very nice ladies in PA. She still treasures that blanket- a bright, cheerful yellow.
There is just something extra comforting about a nice blanket/quilt during dark times.
