For years I have just used my stove and Le Creuset when I wanted to "slow cook" something.

I would now like to purchase a slow cooker. I would like a ceramic insert (unless someone can convince me that the cast aluminum ones are better).

I have been searching for an hour and every review I read, whether the cooker is $200-$20, has a huge group of positive reviews and a huge group of negative reviews.

I have no idea what to pick.

Also, I do not have a CostCo membership but I am considering getting one. I have heard that they have a great return policy. Does anyone know what brands they carry for slow cookers?

Thanks....are you tired of my preparations yet.....

Betsy-

I am searching for a slow cooker that has certified lead-free lining.
Sharper Image had one for a while but quickly sold out.

If you come across one in your research, please let us know.

slow cooker.. you want an electric roaster or a crock pot?both have their advantages.

I have a hamilton beach "stay or go" in the larger oval size. I have no clue about anything except that I saw it on a commercial and made an off hand comment about that being the crock pot I need and my MIL bought it. It locks the lid down for traveling and since that's at least 50% of my use of a crock pot it does that really well.

Melinda,
I was seeing some comments about that, but I didn't look into it too much. Yes, I will have to add that to my list of things to look for.

it's not ceramic, but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Instant Pot. It's an electric pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice maker (and I just saw the new version also says it's good for making yogurt--but I have an older model one without that function.)

And it gets 4.6 stars out of 5 for 718 reviews on Amazon

Melinda,

Have you seen this article: The Skinny on Lead in Crock Pots

The Vita Clay looks interesting. Here is a review by one Mom: How the Vita Clay slow cooker changed my Life.

This is one that I was looking at. It's relatively inexpensive, so I don't feel like I am out much if it don't last forever.

Although it doesn't have a ceramic insert, I love (LOVE) my Ninja cooking system. Because you can pre-cook/sear the meat before you add the other ingredients for soups and stews, everything tastes so much better! I've also used it for steam baking and my kids prefer steam baked cupcakes to the kind baked in the regular oven. They are so moist! I use it at least 2-3 times per week and still haven't used all its functions. It is expensive, but so worth it! Sometimes you can find it on sale. I purchased mine at Target when it was on sale, and got a Target gift card at the same time, so the price wasn't much more than the price of another large crockpot.

I have this All Clad Stainless Steel with a white ceramic insert (the link is for a black one). I LOVE IT!

I bought a lead test kit from Lowes and checked out several items in my kitchen, including this insert and tested fine.

I got mine from a Williams Sonoma outlet store…but I don't think it was much less, if even so, than that Amazon price on the link.

Best thing…it can fit two whole chickens in it!
