Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Posting this early....

Seton is offering free shipping through Feb 3 on orders over $50 using the code SHIP2014.   I always watch for this deal to order my standardized tests for the year. Also, it could be a good time to look for Easter basket books.

The Homeschool Buyer's Coop will have $10 subscriptions to The Happy Scientist starting on Feb 1. The usual rate is $20, and that will be going up in March. This is a great deal for $10- Robert Krampf has videos, a daily science photo, experiments, quizzes and more on his site. He was just voted as one of the top 100 homeschooling educational sites.

And I recently read a fantastic book: Mary Hunt's Debt Proof Living

I listened to it on tape. Man! I learned SO much. She covers how to avoid debt, how to get out of seemingly hopeless (she calls it toxic) debt, the ins and outs of credit scores, student loans... and much more! And she explains it so that someone like me can really understand it all.

I wish someone would have told me her little tip about student loans back in the day. If you have a loan, be sure to pay the interest on it every month, even while you are still in school. Start right away. That could be as little as paying $5-20 a month- but in the long run it will save you thousands, because each month the interest accrues.

Ex. Say you have a loan for $100 at 5% interest monthly. If you don't pay the $5 bucks each month, then the next month you will pay interest on $105 dollars. The month after you pay 5% on $105.25... it snowballs.
Over four years it adds up! Similar to the credit card interest- but with student loans you don't have to pay anything while you are in school, and most college students can afford to pay a few dollars a month to save big later on.

Anyway- I highly recommend this very helpful and hope-filled book.

if you have a financial book that you really like, please share!

The Catholic Child is having a flash sale starting today.

There are many items included, from 10-60% off, including baptism gifts, Christmas items, and some items for Lent.

I also saw a book for teens set at John Paul II High School that looked interesting.

Free Shipping for orders over $50

Serial posting...

This is a great time of year to hit your local thrift shops!
Lots of people clean and purge this time of year, so donations are way up.

My favorite thrift store was overflowing this morning. I snagged a nice big roll of birthday gift wrap still in the packaging for only 50 cents.

I also saw tons and tons of like new winter coats for kids.

I just wanted to chime in and say that I think The Happy Scientist is great! We are having a lot of fun working through his geology videos and experiments right now.
