Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

your budget?

I confess that all the ads and hoopla make me feel overwhelmed, and I tend to tune them out. OTOH, I do like the free shipping and deals that come this time of year.

I can't say, though, that shopping BF has ever been a huge money saver for me. Maybe because I tend to shop clearance and sales through the year.
Maybe I just approach it wrong?

Oh- and I have to mention that starting Monday Rainbow Resources is having a huge Life of Fred Sale.   Now that is something that really could help a homeschool budget!

I do online shopping (or locally owned/operated business) - but I tend to shop clearance/sales throughout the year. I'll buy something if it was on the list already, but I find most things that are that discounted aren't things I would have bought to begin with, so they could GIVE it to me and I likely wouldn't accept it.

But we are also a family who tries is trying to simplify and deepen, rather than multiply items owned - and that carries over into gift-giving (homemade items, activities rather than goods, something TRULY meaningful/useful).

:)

I'm not a big Black Friday shopper but have hit a store in the afternoon to see if anything was left. But, I have a relative that works at one of those stores and she no longer gets a Thanksgiving holiday because she has to work on Thanksgiving because the stores now open Thanksgiving evening. She rallies hard to let people know the consequences of Black Friday starting on Thanksgiving. To support her I don't shop locally anymore on Black Friday. I do plan to order from Rainbow over the weekend though!

Yes! Me, too! You had me laughing at this!

And, I agree with you, Cassie. I think some stores are open all of Thanksgiving now, correct? I know some people love this and maybe in these horrible economic times some probably even need it, but it breaks my heart.

Not a BF shopper. My sister and I did some shopping in October and I plan to shop as much as I can this weekend. I have never Christmas shopped this early, but I can already feel the relief of having a good bit done before Advent begins.

Ooh. Life of Fred. After all of these years, I finally got my hands on these and they look fun. Thanks for the heads up, Melinda.

Figures. I have 2 LOF books coming in a box from RR today

We are getting a new television for Christmas, and though I got a good price on Amazon, we were able to get the difference refunded from BJs Black Friday listing. But we never had to set foot in a store, lol.

Electronics or appliances seem to show the best deals. Mostly, it doesn't matter to me, but this year we happened to be in the market. We are crazy and frivolous and upgrading from a 22 inch to a 32 inch TV

Only if we are looking for something specific and the price is really worth the effort. We don't do Thanksgiving shopping. And my BF shopping is generally done online. American Eagle usually has a large percentage off and free shipping, so I renew my undies stash then as I find those made by the brand comfortable and cute.

We draw a single name and distribute lists in the extended family on my side, so shopping isn't so much about finding a gift but rather finding an item or two on the given list within the designated budget. This year many family members just did Amazon wishlist. It makes shopping easy, but takes away the fun "hunting" factor and the thrill of finding something just right on my own.

Edit: I should add that having the designated budget seems a good idea, but if I find an item really discounted that normally is at or above the budget, instead of congratulating myself on saving money, I tend to buy more up to the budget anyway.

I have this big order for Rainbow just waiting to see if they have a sale I can take advantage of on Friday. So far the sneak peek doesn't have anything on my list. I'm getting impatient!

I have the Intermediate LOF on my list to purchase this spring. I would only save $3, so I'm going to skip because I don't have the funds for this right now. If it was $2 off per book I might go for it.

The main place I find really good deals in at the fabric store. Especially if you're looking for fleece or flannel. Those two tend to be their "door busters" or whatever they're called and are usually 70-75% off.

But it's a long wait.. since you have to wait on the cutting. But no one is rushing and people are friendly and you chat while you wait. So it's not like a mad rush to get the last of an item before anyone else does.

There's lots of people that work Thanksgiving.. medical personnel, emergency services personnel, taxi drivers, hotels, gas station attendants etc. I grew up with it. It's easy enough to celebrate with the family on another day. Not that I care to do a lot of Black Friday shopping but it was nice last year to be able to slip away when the kids were in bed and the teen had an easy time babysitting and do a bit of shopping (stuff I was looking for anyway) about 10pm Thanksgiving night.

And I tend to find that Black Friday afternoon things are quiet and a lot of things are still available. Just not the huge deals with hugely limited stock.

In my town, the traffic in and around the shopping areas is pretty brutal on most weekends, and BF even more so. That if nothing else discourages me from going out to shop.

The fabric store is right in the middle of that area, sadly.

I did, though, this week take advantage of the pre Black Friday free shipping, no minimum from JoAnne's on line. I needed just one yard of Insul Bright, and that really saved me a trip!

I find that I enjoy the Cyber Monday deals more than anything... though those always tempt me to spend more

I've never been one to pay any attention to the sales on Black Friday but this year I went to Target friday afternoon. DH was off work and I couldn't pass up the opportunity for a little child free shopping. By the time I got there, it wasn't crazy and upon checkout I got a coupon for 20% off the entire purchase (excluding things like liquor and electronics) if I shopped this week. Score! I used the coupon to make one big trip to Target. I stocked up on things like Deodorant and cat food and finally invested in some bins and organizers to set up a little art area for DD. I saved $46 total!

Funny thing was that when I was making up the list for the big Target trip, I had a hard time coming up with things we needed.

I don't know if this was an announced sale since I hadn't been following the Target circular but I'll be watching out for a similar deal next year.

OH!!!!We found a GREAT clothing store. Misses sizes (not juniors) and trendy without being overly revealing. G16 must have tried on 9 different dresses. All very cute but the short wasn't too short and the necklines were not excessively low cut though some were lower than others. And they're online to boot!Romy Great deals there. When we walked in on Black Friday afternoon.. they had some summery dresses as "door busters" on sale for $10.. everything was 60% or more.. you could get some seriously lovely dresses for under $30. My daughter got a shorter dress that she wanted to use with leggings, a very light almost lacy cardigan with elbow sleeves to use over any number of sun dresses and a pretty dress for a wedding we're going to next summer.. oh and a pair of fancy earrings for $44 (grandma had given her money to shop for her own Christmas gift )

I have to admit that I rarely have my budget and wish list all planned by Black Friday to make a difference. That's when I usually start planning.

The only times I've done Black Friday is when it's been a family outing, and just browsing, not really getting Christmas shopping done. I hate crowds, I hate the crowded stores, I hate the fake Christmas bling...

I did get a few things for Cyber Monday, but not much. I haven't found such great deals, really. The deals seem to be targeted to certain items or brands, but I need more percentage off to make it worthwhile, because I never buy "in" things it seems.

I discovered that the stores are EMPTY on the morning after Black Friday.

I had to go to Costco on SAt AM and was dreading it... and it was empty, literally. And all the shelves were restocked so that I couldn't even tell that BF had happened.

Hmm... have to remember that next year.

I did pick up an American Girl dvd for $5 and free shipping from the AG website yesterday. They do have a great Cyber Monday sale each year- but I only bought the one item.   It's that whole Need vs. Want thing that TryingMyBest mentioned.

I could probably find some good deal son BF but since I feel like we live such a hectic life anyway, I really enjoy that Friday after Thanksgiving to just hang out an be with family.
Isn't there a small business Saturday or something like that? Lately I feel like I would rather do that and support the local economy with my purchases.
