Interesting. I agree with the premise that to be a wonderful wife and mother that we need to take care of our bodies, as they are the Temples of the Holy Spirit.

So often in the name of motherhood you see women schlepping around not caring what they look like.

Of course, it needs to be practical and balanced and not obsessive.

There isn't much information without buying the book, but the headlines look like it's a glorified Weight Watchers. To me that isn't going to work and not truly healthy.

It also reminds me a little of The Lite Weigh by Suzanne Fowler.

It just seems this is just catching the constant wave of new diet and exercise books, but most are unhealthy. Low-fat and sugar free are not good.

Your posting comes at a great personal time for me. Even with my inactivity due to my heart problems, I am slowly dropping weight just by eating whole foods, good whole fats, grass-fed meats, and avoiding wheat and sugar. I indulge in wine and some dessert with dh occasionally and it still doesn't mess up my metabolism too much. The last couple of days I've dipped below a number that I haven't done in YEARS! And I feel better (besides the big heart thing.... )

It's almost 2 years since I gave up Diet Coke -- I drink no soda at all and that was a real turning point. That aspartame was really messing up my blood sugars.

Probably too much personal info and not what you were looking for....

Granted I've become a die-hard Whole30 believer after the fabulous results I've gotten. But very little of what they suggest you have to have on that link are common items IMO and on W30, they would be verboten.

I'm also of the opinion that substituting faux foods for the real foods is not only not one bit healthier, I view them as more unhealthy. (Eg, fake sugar in place of regular sugar, protein powders in place of a high protein foods.)

I would have gone broke buying all that faux stuff and I doubt I'd have lost 10 pant sizes healthily this year.

Lastly, as a general red flag, I worry associating biblical value with a woman's weight/diet to be bordering on spiritual abuse. A woman trying to lose weight does not need to hear that if she just ate biblically all her health, marriage intimacy, and fat issues would improve. Now, I haven't read the book, so maybe they somehow manage to avoid that, but that link home page is a red flag banner for that concern to *me*.

Okay. Now I'm going to say if you hold a picture of me last thanksgiving up to me today, I look like I've had a lot of body work too. And I guess I have, but it was all natural work I've sweated a lot for.

Otherwise, I agree I'm not a fan of WW or nutrisystem and so forth. Any diet you have to stop at some point is a diet that at some point you will regain your weight loss.

Diet = lifestyle, not a temporary solution to weight loss.

I've lost 50lbs too and tho I don't think it's that different, I've had several people who have commented my face looks very different. I thought it was just my makeup or something, but even without makeup I've gotten that comment. My husband has commented that he saw a big difference in my face.

What you are eating is very similar to what those ladies propose: no sugar, but also no honey, maple syrup, etc. The only sweeteners they allow are truvia and stevia I believe. They also have lots of gluten free ideas, but are not per se gluten free. They discourage white flour, though. I think the biggest idea in the book is the way they combine food and alternate those foods. There are E foods (energizing) and S foods (satisfying).

If you google it you will get LOTS of women using this method of eating and are very happy with it. You can almost eat anything (just no junk food, processed food, white flour, white rice, white potatoes, and sugar plus "natural" sweeteners). It's more about how you combine food each day.

Anyway, I was just interested if anybody here had tried it.

Well, the original site throws me, because it has a list of "CHOCOLATE, PIZZA, ICECREAM, DESSERTS & MORE!"

which sounds a lot like WW -- you can eat all this and still lose weight.

I have not tried it, but I can see how the S and E thing could be a useful tool in helping people eat in a balanced way without counting points and calories and all that.

From your descriptions, it sounds like their emphasis on health is good rather than something like nutrisystem equating skinny with healthy. There are plenty of trim people who eat junk and have scores of health problems.

Yes, they list those, but they are all home-made with almond flour, or gluten free flour, and/or sugar free, etc. They soak their oats, encourage sourdough or sprouted bread, etc.

If I understand it correctly, they come from a former vegan background, trying to fight cancer, and on that journey have tried many diets. The book is their result after many years of trial and error.

There is not so much "Biblical" talk in the book as you might expect, at least what I have heard.

No, not too much! Thank you for sharing this. I have had a couple issues with blood sugar, and I do drink a Diet Coke, everyday. Can you share more, Jen? Were you checking your sugars regularly or did your doctor pick up on it? How long did it take before you saw a change in eliminating the Diet Coke?

I did hear something about concerns with diet sodas and weight gain/diabetes just a month or two ago. I can't remember all the details, but I found this article that sort of explains what I heard. I could not find any specific study, though.

Regardless, I am sure the chemicals are something my body can do without!

I am glad you asked about this, Eva. I have tried WW and Lite Weigh. I thought WW was the better of the two, but it still didn't work for me. I think, because I am allergic to beef and pork, that I needed a personalized approach. I finally asked my doctor for a referral, and she sent me to a Registered Dietician. I like having someone who has studied all of this, full time, for many years, guiding me through the changes in my diet. So far, I am cautiously optimistic.

I think a Christian weigh loss support group is a good idea, cheering each other on and sharing helpful Scripture or prayers, but I don't know that their backgrounds, in this book, lend themselves to solid nutritional advice.

I was just talking about this to my husband today about how Diet Coke has 4 big reasons for me to avoid it: aspartame, sodium benzoate, GMO ingredients and phosphoric acid. I was feeling awful, but really drinking DC too much. I had regular headaches and sugar lows.

I wasn't testing my blood sugar, but any time I would drink a DC after I had been not drinking for a while, I would just crash, shakes, total hypoglycemia. There was no mistaking.

And I noticed the weight gain coming off.

I wouldn't take up Truvia or Stevia like this diet, though. I'd rather avoid sugar for most everything and indulge in real sugar every once in a while. I don't ever want to go through sugar substitutes again. I still think they send the wrong messages to the body.

I think that is what the book is trying to do, to create a way of eating that stops drastic ups and downs of your blood sugar and I do think you could adapt this book to many ways of eating, vegetarian, even paleo, Nourishing Tradition, etc.
