I love summer! I love especially summer fruit.
Watermelon is my first love
We eat it so often that my kids are happy come September when watermelon goes away for the winter... the nerve
But lately I have discovered mangos.
OK- I had to watch a youtube video to figure out the best way to peel them, but I found a super easy way, and they are so good! Almost like fruit candy- so sweet.
What do you like?

I have to choose???
Of course there's the strawberries and peaches.. love them on things and for jams.. not so much just for snacking though.
I love nectarines and plums and grapes for snacking.. sweet and tart and cold.. somehow that tart part makes them feel cooler when it's hot. Oh and pineapple but those are more available year round.

Well, we have a blackberry jungle in our backyard, so I've been eyeing those for quite a while... it'll be a couple more weeks until we get to indulge. I'm really picky about peaches, but when they are good, they are divine, just to eat or in pie.
And, not a fruit, but I recently discovered kohlrabi, and it's very crisp and refreshing when sliced and sprinkled with a little salt. I finally know what to do with that alien-looking thing!

I am also a blackberry fan. Love them.
Peaches are funny- either divine or mushy and ick.
We have a good strawberry run each spring...

~Watermelon, my favorite ~ just diced up a whole melon for family game time
~Black raspberries ~ just beginning to ripen on our land, sweeter than other berries
~Blackberries will follow in a few weeks ~ scads waiting to ripen after a grim season last year, can't wait to make jam and freeze as much extra as we can harvest
~Blueberries ~ we missed picking them at a local farm last year, hoping to make up this year
Oh, the joys of Summer!

My thoughts exactly.
Hm, I've never been a huge watermelon fan, though since I've discovered watermelon sorbets and salads I've been eating more.
But I love all the berries, and plums and nectarines. Mangoes -- have you tasted Champagne or Ataulfo mangoes? Philippine mangoes are the best!! We also eat them green, crunchy, sour, and dipped in something salty.
Papaya both semi-ripe and ripe!! And cantaloupes!! And pineapples!! Well -- those are shipped here year-round, but they're especially delicious in the summer.
Thanks for the tip on kohlrabi!!

Strawberries used to be my favorite, with much of the love tied to memories of warm summer mornings in the berry patch, picking them with my mum . And of the course, the smell from the kitchen when she was making strawberry jam.
Now, I think nectarines/peaches have gained the lead. And, yes, I have wonderful memories of getting the bushel of peaches every August, and my mum canning the peaches for eating over winter.
