I'm in the market for bar stools. Anyone have some that they love? Any tips on what to look out for? Is any style better for kids than others?
I honestly didn't think I would ever get any because I was afraid the kids would be all over them and knocking the down. But, I need extra seating and I have an island with space for three stools. I think I prefer the kind with a back.
Thank you!

without a back and NO swivel.. or the kids will sit there and spin around (or back and forth) creating noise and havoc and generally increasing the odds of a fall.

We have saddle stools we like. No back, but we like that they are less tippy and don't add as much visual clutter to the room as a back would. We found ours on Craigs List, which might be a good place to keep an eye. It is the sort of thing that people put on there often. I also recall Overstock having several options when I was looking.
We have one bar height and one counter, and we assumed we'd trim the legs on the taller stool to make it fit, but we realized that the taller height is nice for the littles even though it is at a counter height surface.
It is tricky because if they are too light, they tip easily, but if the are too heavy, they can injure little ones if they do tip. I really like the rattan top, but dh talked me out of it because it would be so hard to keep clean with our crew.

I hate swivel ones too. The kids just sit there and SWIVEL! They just can't stop themselves.
And, I like the no-backs too, because with kids, they are NEVER pushed in and when you have backs you can SEE that visual clutter like someone mentioned above.
I personally prefer a back for comfort, but I don't sit on bar stools usually....

That was my first gut reaction, too!

I've checked out the saddle style, like Lindsey has, but they easily tipped over. I'm sure there are good ones out there, but I've been surprised by how many I've come across that are cheaply made. I'm cautious about buying any without sitting on them, for that reason!
