In the past month a little more, I have been getting up early for prayers. I also started making breakfast for my husband before he needs to head out the door for work. Here is the problem, I am stumped about what to feed him!

I make him coffee, still working on that, I don't drink coffee and well, it does not always taste so good when I make it... oops.
He does not do well with wheat products so if I make eggs, I give them to him either scrambled or over a bed of cooked veggies like peppers and onions. Or I make him oatmeal. This has GOT to be getting boring to him but he is not as easy to feed as the boys. What do you feed your husband? I am out of ideas and stumped!
Help.

Scrambled fried potatoesI(I boil the night beofre just to be quicker) with veggies, sausage or bacon or chicken and an egg, when cooked, a little cheddar.

Fruit salad and oatmeal.

Yogurt and granola

I'd ask him if he needs more variety. My husband is a creature of habit and doesn't need or request much variation.

My dh has pretty much the same thing every morning. So I wouldn't worry about variation (unless your dh has expressed that concern) as much as just doing it well. Coffee is not that hard to make even if you don't care for it. You just need to measure reasonably accurately and be just a touch generous on the amount of coffee to the amount of water... oh and buy good coffee.

Potatoes are nice with eggs.. and if you cook them ahead they'll cook up quick for breakfast. If he likes spicy food.. some eggs scrambled with potatoes and onions and peppers topped with a bit of cheese and salsa is different.

And some people aren't concerned with having breakfast foods so much so perhaps from leftovers heated up would make a nice breakfast. Maybe a fried rice type of dish? that usually has some eggs and meat and veggies in it with the rice all sauted together.

You would think coffee was not difficult! LOL But I have used both a measuring spoon, a measuring cup and the coffee measurer thing. Still he tells me it is either to strong or to weak! Geez!
I am fine with instant, it is this darned coffee maker that is killing me. Maybe it isn't measuring properly?? I have no idea. He keeps telling me I am getting better but I never have heard good coffee yet...

I just e-mailed him and asked him if he wanted more variety. I was shot down with cream of rice cereal but he will eat oatmeal until the cows come home! I add fruit, cup up apples or blueberries. He always has to have brown sugar and maple syrup....
Oh the men in my life.....

Jill, if your coffee maker needs cleaning it can make impact the taste. Running a cycle of water with vinegar through it can take care of residue inside your coffee maker. I don't drink coffee either, but those who drink it in our household notice a difference when I clean the coffee maker. Good water also makes a difference. We make sure to use filtered water for coffee here.

Dh really enjoys leftover meats or pizza for breakfast. He tends to mention looking forward to breakfast when he knows those are waiting for him the next day! Could just be his personal taste though.

oh yeah leftover pizza (cold from the fridge ) is a favorite of dh's here too.

I would stick with one type of measure and then just adjust from there.. or.. ask your dh to make the coffee so that he likes it and then teach you how

Oh another thought.. are you grinding the beans for the coffee? because how much you grind them can influence how weak/strong the coffee is.

No I am not grinding them. I bought Maxwell house something or other from the store as that is what he told me he likes. But cleaning the coffee pot...! I had not thought of that. Kind of like when I clean out the tea kettle every now and again! Great idea. Will be doing that in just a moment.

Pizza is a no no for hubby! But I could cook extra of things to have left overs for the morning. I had not really thought of that.
Thank you ladies! Still awaiting his response....

Bacon & eggs, he loves the 2 days/week he gets bacon & eggs. His other favourite is apple crumble and cream mornings (2). Then we have muesli days and porridge (oatmeal) days.

How about hashbrowns and eggs? Or hashbrowns and sausage?

Cut up fruit with yogurt and granola.

Sausage links rolled in a pancake. Both things can be made ahead of time and frozen and then just taken out the night before and warmed up.

I finally just got to sit down with hubby and talk about all this. He LOVED your ideas and was very flattered that I took this extra measure to take care of him and see to some of his comfort!
Thank you very, very much ladies!

If your dh likes bread products, there are some very good non-wheat alternatives you can find in some health food stores, which a dear friend of ours lives on. Millet bagels and such. She likes them, and it gives her an alternative to no bread products whatsoever. We like toast with peanut butter and then applesauce on top, or honey or jelly, of course. If you could find those bagels, you could toast one up and add such toppings, or cream cheese with peanut butter or fruit on top.

Also, you can find wheat free tortillas, and make breakfast burritos, with the scrambled eggs with sausage, onions, peppers, mushrooms, bacon bits, etc., etc.,etc. in them.

If your dh likes pizza, and the only ingredient he can't have is wheat, there are recipes for wheat free pizza dough. We love our own homemade pizza here, and I have tried various wheat free ingredients. One thing I found handy was using plain gelatin instead of the often recommended xanthan gum.

Oh, and make sure to run at least one, if not two rinse cycles after the vinegar cleaning cycle on the coffee maker. May be obvious? But if you don't it will make a very "not good" batch of coffee the next time!

I rinsed the coffee maker well. Phew!

I do make gluten free pizza crust (from a package...) but not too often. We just do not do pizza that often. He is not super crazy about pizza.
But yes, I had forgotten about the bagels that he LOVES! And he does love crunchy peanut butter too!

I am going to run with these ideas and make a very thorough grocery list!

To make the very best coffee get a French press. It is really easy to use and the coffee is amazingly better than an electric drip. All you do is grind the beans coarsly (you can do this at the store or at home), pour into the pot, add boiling water, put the top on, wait 15 minutes or so, push down the press, and serve. This is a special treat around here and dh loves it. Also my dh loves fried potatoes with his eggs and I found you don't need to boil them. You can simply microwave them as you would baked potatoes. Then cut them up and fry in some olive oil with salt and pepper. You can even make several potatoes and keep them in the fridge to use for a few days until you fry them.

A French press would have to be a gift. But a nice one! I will have to plant that seed to my mom, she always asks for good gift ideas for him.
Microwaving the potatoes is a good idea!
I was dreaming about potatoes last night now that I think about it.. Weird.

We don't do wheat either and I do not cook for my husband in the morning as he is out way earlier than we are up, but I make sure there are grab and go things for him.

This is what he likes:
homemade granola on yogurt
hardboiled eggs (make ahead and keep in fridge) and a banana
protein bar and a fruit (if I happen to have any in the pantry)

That is about it. He used to eat a bagel every.single.day and is the kind of guy who likes things simple, so having the same thing every morning is fine with him. Then on weekends I make the fancy stuff for him - pancakes, huevos rancheros, egg dishes, etc.

He also sets up his coffee at night so he just has to push the button in the morning. I used to do this for him, and your generous heart has prompted me to start this up again for him. I'll bet he'd feel extra loved by this little act.       What a blessing you are to your husband!

My husband's breakfast EVERY morning is an egg and cheese bagel. Sometimes I add bacon but that's a bonus. I use regular bagels, but my son who can't have gluten likes his "egg sandwich" on the Scharr gluten free rolls I buy. Very similar in texture to a bagel. Just make sure you toast them and add a little butter first.

Most days, we eat breakfast together before dh goes into work (he doesn't have to leave until 8:00). My boys are much pickier than dh about having the same thing every day. We usually have eggs, though I do throw in almond or coconut flour pancakes once or twice a week (in addition to being grain-free, we find these are heartier and stay with us better than regular pancakes did or those made from other gluten free flour blends), and occasionally we have homemade granola with yogurt as a special treat(during apple season, we like Erin's fruinola).

Sometimes there is sausage or eggs or toast with the meat. I typically make scrambled eggs, but when dh makes breakfast, he makes fried eggs.

I also will switch up the egg thing by adding spinach and goat cheese, kale and feta, or green onions and cheddar, etc... Dh likes this, though the baby usually picks out the spinach, and one of the boys doesn't like goat cheese but will eat it rather than go hungry. In the summer, just a sprinkling of chervil or a little fresh, mild salsa from the garden can easily add some variety to the scrambled egg regime. I used to think that salsa on egg sounded so strange, but it really is terribly good.

And baked potatoes fry up well, so instead of boiling ahead of time, when I bake potatoes, I will often bake a lot, and we'll have breakfast potatoes with our eggs the next few days. This is more of a winter thing for us, though. I will also sometimes make cheese grits to go with the eggs. I call it "sunshine for breakfast" since it is a very yellow meal , but it is popular.

This morning, I made breakfast burritos with eggs, cheese, and some leftover taco dip and salsa, and they were a huge hit with everyone. There are lots of breakfast burrito ideas out there, so maybe just changing up the mode of eating could add variety (eggs and peppers and onions on a wrap with a little cheese?). I used rice tortillas from Trader Joes, but we like corn tortillas as well.

And then there are the mornings when all I can manage is a quick smoothie.

Lest anyone think I'm an over-achiever, lunches here are incredibly simple. But we all seem to function better with a hearty meal first thing. I just wish my kids didn't try to speak to me before eating it
