Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have a the first kitchen table my grandparents had. It was our first table too and we still use it. Currently it is an extra table for school work. I want to set it up as an art station for my youngest. I need to cover it in something so that art supplies don't stain it, but yet still is a hard surface for drawing. The table truly was a cheap table and not meant to last the 60 years that is has. It has a laminate finish, so we can't sand and stain if it gets markings all over it. I truly believe my grandparents are smiling down knowing this table is still so useful!

laminate? if it's like the one I have, I don't think you can hurt it with art supplies

what about a sheet of glass/plexiglas cut to the size of the top of the table?

Love the plexiglass idea. I can imagine putting pieces of the kids artwork under the glass and using it not only as a work table, but an art display as well.

Another option, one that we use, is not as sturdy as plexiglass and also pretty cheap is to buy a table pad. I'm not talking about the thick puffy kind. The one we have I just bought where the table cloths are sold at our local stuff mart. It is heavier than a vinal table cloth so it lasts a while longer, but I have had to replace it several times over the years. For example, it wont hold up to a craft knife and permanent markers do stain it. It might be an option while you're waiting for that plexiglass though.

I would think you don't need to protect it at all? Our formica table is our art table and we just scrub it clean. Do you mean it has a veneer finish?

Maybe laminate isn't the word I'm looking for. It is a fake wood covering. It is actually starting to peel off in some spots. I just know that markers will stain it and I won't be able to get it off. The Plexiglas sounds like a good idea.

If you want something cheap and easy, this is great. If that link doesn't work, this is the fitted table cover from Lakeshore Learning.

I have purchased a really thick, clear plastic to protect our table.
