Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My old kids decided to so some surprise cooking this morning and baked a pumpkin pie from scratch.

When my dh asked them if they followed the recipe my ds replied, "It was based on a true recipe!"

Perhaps we are reading too many books this fall???

based on a true recipe

Hey, that's how I mostly cook. I've just done enough cooking to know what parts I can change and which I can't.

Jodie,
I definily cook that was at well. However, my ds's aren't quite there yet.

They tend to feel if they have *most* of the ingredients they are good to go...no matter which one's they are missing.

It's has made for some interesting deserts.

Actually this is why they made pumpkin pie. It was the only recipe they could find that didn't use sugar...which we have been out of for months!

It's definately more complicated to teach cooking with this method. My 15 yr old has it. My 13 yr old has learned what he's interested in. And the 10 and 12 yr olds are working on learning it. Which makes it nice because I'm not the only one who can supervise the cooking.. they can and will go to an older sibling for help.
