Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Lindsey's thread about gardening soil reminded me to post this but as we were cleaning our 2 4x4 raised beds yesterday in preparation for planting, I can't even tell you how much cat poop I cleaned out! WE DON'T OWN A CAT! We live in a very suburban neighborhood but one neighbor has an outdoor cat that roams the neighborhood. We didn't have this issue until our dog died. Anyone else have this problem and know a solution, aside from getting a dog tomorrow?

Also found cat poop in the kid's sandbox which has a lid but of course they've been known to leave it off. We get along w/ this neighbor very well so I'm going later today to talk to her because we've seen this cat lounging all over our backyard fabric furniture too and my son and I are allergic to cats. We love animals but I think we're going to get a trap and catch the cat and call the Humane Society next time it shows up in our backyard. I don't know what else to do. She has said before it's not really "her" cat but her daughter's ex-husband's sister's cat...follow that!? But she feeds it and takes care of it aside from letting it roam around.

Thoughts?

You can buy great things from Lee Valley to put down in the beds to discourage cats (but that doesn't take care of the cat poo now )

you can just lay wire fencing down in the garden.. when they can't dig without hitting the wires, they won't. You just plant right through the fence etc.

So talked to the neighbor and went well. She brought some spray but not sure it's supposed to be used around food and children.    She then mentioned moth balls. I very lovingly said ok but DH does have a small animal cage so eventually he'll probably get it out and we'll bring the cat to your door step before calling animal control (eventually). BIG SMILE She kind of laughed and said "well, may be then it'll quit going in your yard if it gets caged." So, we'll see.

Hadn't thought about wire fencing but that's a good idea for the garden since obviously it can't be covered. I'll check out the site you mentioned too Kristie. Thanks!

We had this problem one year and since we had already planted, we scattered sticks in between the plants - the thinner and pokier the better. It seemed to work! Like with the wire fencing, they don't like to walk on it and can't dig.
