Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

So, what's on the menu this Valentine's Day at your house?

I feel a red velvet cake coming on. I have a heart shaped cake pan that will come in handy for that. As for the meal... haven't gotten that far yet

What are you doing?

well the evening is complicated by the boy scout meeting.

I have a bottle of champagne in the pantry.

Maybe dh and I can go out to lunch.. hmmmmm.

It may be last minute or we might do our special meal a day late.. but we do normally have a special meal either at home or going out.

Who knows.

Dinner tonight is just my dh and myself and our youngest (and very special) Valentine who is 16 1/2. She and I are preparing a special meal and dessert. The menu we have planned includes:

  • pasta with shrimp and chorizo in an arrabiata sauce
  • roasted broccoli with lemon and pine nuts
  • tossed salad with feta cheese and mixed olives
  • parsley and garlic flatbread

The desserts will be prepared by dd. She has a raspberry cheese cake along with some shortbread cookies dipped in chocolate ganache planned.

All served with a nice Spanish wine and perhaps a Guinness for my dh. He has really grown to love this since his visit to Ireland.

My husband is picking up burritos on the way home--a treat, since we rarely eat out or take-out.

I changed my plan when I found a good roast for roast beef and baked potatoes, and a bottle of champagne.

I'm really an old curmudgeon about VDay. Just not a fan.

I am beat today but did manage to make a special dessert this morning. I tried to convince my husband that this would be a complete meal if we add wine and candlelight. He responded by offering to come home early and make black bean tacos for the kids and salad for me. I guess that's a win-win.
