Can you tell I'm still Christmas shopping?
One of the items I wanted to get for the whole family are water bottles. A few years ago I got 3 bottles from Fly Lady. I've been relatively pleased with them, but we have 3, and 4 people in our family, so I definitely need one more. But the drawbacks--the opening is a bit narrow, so ice doesn't fit through from the ice maker. They are just a bit small for our cup holders, so they wiggle a bit in the car -- a little tall and top heavy? Plus, 16 oz is not very much for a water bottle -- I think 20 oz. would be better.
And I also have noticed that one or two of these must have sprung a leak in the insulated wall, because they aren't keeping things cold. I guess for 3 years old that's pretty good record, but I'm hoping for another choice.
Anyone use and love Klean Kanteen? Any other brand? I saw Camelbak, but I'm not fond of having a plastic straw. I know that will be chewed on in one day.

Klean Kanteen fans here. We've had ours about three years, and they are still going strong. Ice fits in them pretty well, and they don't jiggle in our cup holders.
I also have a couple of stainless steel water bottles I bought on clearance at Target that work just as well.
ETA: I just have the plain KK, not the double insulated kind

We have had some of our Klean Kanteens for 5 or more years, and they are still in perfect condition. We use them on a daily basis. When we got ours they only had the standard, stainless colored ones. So we have four of those. As our family has grown we have added colors. I even have another one on my son's Christmas list now that he's bigger. I just wish we had more of the sports tops! Those are the only thing that have occasionally broken, and only DH has managed to do it. 
I highly recommend them.

What tops do you use? I am thinking the tops that unscrew are easily lost if they aren't attached.
Anyone try Think Sport ones?

Oh yes, we love our Klean Kanteen! We own one for each of us. We own the Kids Sippy for my youngest and kids 12 oz classic for the rest with the sport cap. My dh and I have the 18 oz. classics.
I have been using them for over two years now and they still look great. And they get used...for every park day or hike or just a quick trip out. They do fit perfcetly in the car cup holders. Our ice fits nicely in them. The kids have something similar to this water holder sling but they are kiddish like (I bought them at our pharmacy) and their bottle fits in it. They take it on hikes and wear them over their shoulders. O.K. I think I've praised it enough.
BTW, I bought mine through a Kids Steal.com deal at about half the price. I often see them have the deal too.

This stainless steel Thermos brand bottle is my personal favorite. It's expensive ($22.99 plus shipping, but I love its features:
Stainless and unbreakable
Holds 26 oz.
Fits most ice cubes in through the top
Keeps water cold for a long time (maybe around 8-12 hours or more)
Fits in my car cup holder
Comes in different colors so my dd and I don't mix up our water bottles (I think there are 3 or 4 color options)
Has a screw-on top that doesn't leak in a backpack or tossed on the floor of my car 
There's actually a place to put in a straw through the top if that is your preference.
I think (but I'm not sure) that these are not made in China
ETA: These are really just designed for cold drinks, not hot.

More love for the Klean Kanteen's here! All the kids have one. Sippy tops for the littles, sport tops for the bigs.

We have both Klean Kanteens and Camelbaks. Everyone likes Camelbaks better. They say a great combo would be a Klean Kanteen with a Camelbak drinking top.

these aren't canteens but I LOVE the contigo autoseal travel mugs like this but bought at costco for $20 for 2. they really are no spill.. if you let go they close so you might get a few drips but no big spills.. the insulation is outstanding.. I used it on black friday leaving it in the car with below freezing temps and my drink was hot for the first hour and a half or so and still tepid after two hours.. in the house/ on trips where the air is reasonably warm we easily get 3 hours of hot. I also use it in the summer with ice in it and carry an uninsulated canteen to refill it and I have ice for hours too.. longer than it would stay hot.
But they're a bit small.. barely 16 oz. But the true no spill is sooooo worth it with 10 kids in the van and any spills able to travel the length and breath of the vehicle getting anything on the floor wet.

Really? Is it a hard plastic drinking top? I can't picture it not being an invitation to chew on by some little boys.

Funny you mention that, because it is an issue for us. I've owned other canteens and our sport tops are holding up pretty well in this area. Yes, I see some bite marks but not bad enough for the water flow to be disturbed or for me to toss them.

Klean Kanteen!! 
They are a bit more pricey than the other brands, but for good reason - they are the best, in my opinion. I've tried lots of other brands when I find a good sale, but we always go back to KK.
It is quite a loss when a child leaves them at track, baseball, or the like, though.

Thanks for all the feedback. Do you buy the insulated bottles or just the standard water bottles? I much prefer keeping drinks cold, but I can see the choices of caps are limited on the insulated for KK.

I know I'm late to this, and I think I'm echoing the majority here by sayiing that we really enjoy our KIeen Kanteens. We've had them for about 3 or so years.
We have non-insulated bottles. I just chose a variety of lids and we keep them all in a little bin in the cupboard next to all the Kleen Kanteens. We choose our preference when we fill a bottle. Almost everyone prefers the kind with the pop up top - the one you suck on to drink out of. It's a hard plastic and I do have chewers here and these have survived. I prefer the "unscrew the whole cap and drink straight out of the bottle lid" most of the time. It's a personal pref thing really more than anything else.
The KK's are VERY LOUD if dropped, and they will dent, so we purchased, at the same time we bought our bottles, a BUILT NY insulated carrier for each KK. I love these. They were a very worthwhile addition! First, they distinguish bottles because everyone got a different color. Second, they do provide some insulation help. Third, the strap is EXTREMELY handy it turns out - we snap on strollers, bikes, purse handles, shopping carts, over a wrist, everywhere. And fourth, MACHINE WASHABLE!!!! Need I say more? I've tossed those things into the washer so many times and they come out fine and ready for the next outing! Do consider an insulated carrier. AND...having purchased a couple of other insulated carriers of a different brand, I can say that they aren't all created equal! The Built NY brand carriers are quite thick and very durable!

We've had stainless steel bottles for over a year now, if I had my time again I'd only buy the silver colour, coloured bottles scratch and lose their paint.

We love our Kleen Kanteens too! We have the non-insulated kind and, like Jen, purchased a "Built" carrier for each. At first my kids used the sleeves all the time. Now they use them only about half the time and just drink room temp water the rest of the time. We've had them for several years. The paint chips off after a while.

Oh, I need to echo this! Definitely only the silver. My girls got beautiful colored ones that are all scratched up and dented and the paint is peeling.

Another vote for Kleen Kanteens with Built NY sleeves. We use them all the time! For those who are concerned about things made in China, I have a friend who sells Swiss SIGG bottles here. I prefer stainless myself, but Kleen Kanteens are made in China last I heard.
