Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi all,

Wondering if carpet cleaners, probably at the level one could purchase at Wal-Mart..maybe a Bissell, are worth it or are they useless? My Mom asked what I would like for Christmas, and I was thinking of asking her for that, maybe chipping in a little with her. We have Berber type carpet, and then area rugs in the downstairs. I have a little hand-held Bissell cleaner now that works fairly well that I use for spot cleaning, but I really need something bigger. Does anyone have any thoughts or recommendations? Do they actually CLEAN?

Thanks!
Kim

Well this may not be much help, but I would actually just rent the ones at Walmart. I think it's $20-25 each time plus cleaner. The smaller one I have doesnt really do that great a job (no idea what brand it is)and takes forever to do it's decent job. We rent the one at Walmart for the weekend and it also forces us to actually get the whole house done in one weekend instead of putting it off since we dont want to waste our money. This probably costs about $80 to do it twice a year, but IMO it's totally worth it. If you do buy one I would get a heavy duty one like the ones you rent at store, but I have no idea what brand or price range they are in. They are also huge so would take up a lot of room to store.

I only used my mom's Kenmore carpet cleaner as a kid and it worked well. It's long gone though.
I also rent tht Rug Doctor once or twice a year. I have to "Schedule" it so I max out my time but it is worth it. It has some pretty powerful extraction--the rugs dry fast. You can buy one, I have been tempted, but they are REALLY expensive. I saw them at Costco, Bed Bath and BEyond, and I think Walmart.com has them.

I got this carpet cleaner about four years ago and I am really happy with it. It does a great job on my carpets and it's convenient to have since we need to use it quite often.

I got a Hoover one very similar to the one that jawgee linked to.
I love it and can't imagine what my floors would look like without it!
