Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi There,

I'm more of a visual learner, needing to see something done in order to do it. So, I'm really struggling with this relatively easy knitting pattern. I posted on Ravelry as well, but crave the kindness of these boards for my question.

This is the pattern I'm working on: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mary-jane-booties-5

I'm stuck on Row 21. Right now on my needles I have 9 knitted stitches that I just knit, 21 binded off stitches, and 9 knitted stitches I started Row 20 with. I am unclear as to which 9 stitches I put on a holder, the ones I just did or the first ones? If it's the first ones, how do I get to them? They are on the other end of my circular needles?

Then after I finish working with the 9 stitches, bind them off, and then get to the 9 stitchs on the holder, how do I cast on to them? I've never done that before.

Oh, am I hopeless? I wish I had a knitting friend or yarn shop near by, but not only do I not, but I'm still on bedrest with my pregnancy and can't drive till my clot dissolves. I'd appreciate any help!!!

Thanks so much,
Betty

I realized that maybe not everyone is a Ravelry member and maybe can't see the link. Here's another place to see it:    http://tlc.howstuffworks.com/home/free-baby-bootie-knitting- patterns2.htm

I'm still desperately seeking help. Thanks so much, Betty

Betty, wish I could come over! I always have to look up casting on. I always refer to my Readers Digest Guide to Needlework and now this handy-dandy site which has videos. It includes casting on with the cable cast on.

Hi Jen! Yes, that site is so helpful!!! I wish you were here too!

What confused me is to cast on to a picked up stitch. Then I'm having trouble visualizing working on those picked up stitches along with the stitches that were on the holder. It seems like that would join all those stitches and I believe the cast on stitches, if they are the strap for the booties, are worked in a different direction than the stitches in the holder. Boohoo. I guess I'm stuck till Saturday. I might start on a different project in the meantime.

I just read about lovingly accepting all Divine Providence brings my way. It's the "lovingly" part I'm having trouble with.

Blessings,
Betty

The first set of nine you just slip onto a holder even on the other end of circulars they should have an end to slide off.   You cast on 12 stitches with the method recommendedcast on then knit the 9 stitches off the stitch holder just like knitting needle to needle. Those shoes are sooo cute. Annie
