Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have a combination dvd/VCR player that does a so-so job playing both.

I still have quite a few VCR tapes of things like Little Bear, Richard Scarry, etc.
I am at the point of passing those on, as my dc rarely watch them these days.

I bought most of them used and plan to donate them to a local thrift store where someone like me will hopefully pick them up for a song and enjoy them with their dc.

But-- is the VCR becoming a dinosaur? Am I the only one who still uses one?

I have both. Actually, I'm sure I'm the only one who thinks this way, but I prefer the VCR for the kid's movies. I have to guard the DVD's because they get scratched so easily. I think VCR tapes can take a lot more abuse and still be usable!

We have both. Our VCR is not the most reliable, but with the right touch... and perseverance it does work. It is almost 16 years old, so what can I expect?
We also have some Little Bear videos that my 2 youngest still watch! I also have some videos of old movies that I was not able to find as dvd.

We have both. We find that many older obscure classic movies haven't yet been converted to DVD, so we're holding onto our VCR. We also tend to find many older movies on video at Goodwill for a song, since so many people are getting rid of theirs. I do prefer DVDs for slimmer storage, special features and subtitles, but feel the same way about scratches...arghhh, we thought that problem would go away when records were no longer produced.

Most of my VHS tapes have been from the Goodwill or garage sales.... I love the easiness of just popping in a tape and not having to stand there waiting for the disc to load and then navigating through the menu options.

It's so easy just to fast forward through the parts of a VHS tape you want to skip.

No TV (VHS) or dvd player here, just two laptops.

We still use the video player occasionally but it is on its last legs. The top is off as the videos keep getting jammed. We have been able to replace some videos with DVDs but some are real treasures.

We have a DVD player but also use the playstation as a DVD player.

We still have 2 video players. one in the cupboard. our favourite kids movies are on video.
We just watched the Lion King on video.
We are going to watch the human body- video, very soon.
We should really put them on the dvd.

I must add we do have dvd player too.
We do try to limit there use.

Yes. Our DVDs tend to fall out of the holder and get scratched by little hands. I can buy VCR tapes for a song at our library book store, and they last so muh longer. I hate their size, but they do last so much longer and do not skip... It's a tradeoff

I want to get the Roxio software and convert to DVD while our VHS still works. As well as our Super 8 home movies. I always do an extra back up that gets stored in a separate box. That way we always have one.

We keep our VHS player since, as mentioned before, some of the good older movies can only be found in VHS. Sometimes when you find a rare gem through the library, they only have it in VHS.

We have a combo dvd/vhs set that we just recently got from an aunt because our dvd/tv combo unit stopped working. But honestly have not used a vhs in years. We had a garage sale several years ago and sold all of our vhs tapes (at the time we no longer had a vhs machine).

We now have an extensive dvd collection. The image is just so much more nicer to watch, but will we do the same for blue ray? I don't think so, not any time soon anyway. It just seems like technology advances exponentially and our budget can't keep up.

When we moved, we sold our VCR and all of our tapes with the exception of dance performances and ultrasounds. I wish that I had saved them now, but my thinking was that VCRs are outdated.

We did the exact same thing!

To cut down on the scratching of the DVD's we bought a case for all of them.

We have a case for kids stuff, a case for adult stuff and a separate case for all the educational CD's and DVD"S that only Mom and Dad are allowed to touch:)

So I'm assuming the "yes or no" part applies to VCR only but the "both or neither" part applies to DVD and VCR, so I answered both. We don't use the VCR much but kept for home videos, CCC videos (which were the only VHS tapes we had that my kids haven't outgrown) and tapes we borrow from the library. The library has really started getting rid of VHS tapes, though, so don't know how much longer that will last. They got rid of almost all of their filmstrips too.

I use both. My sister passed on her VHS collection of children tapes to me, plus I'm old enough to have grown up when Beta was first available (we had Star Wars on Beta)! I also have lots of VHS movies that I enjoyed as a teenager/young adult.

I also have records and tapes that I have not converted to CD's yet. I suppose I'm really behind now that everything is converting to digital recordings! I just buy new things in the new formats instead of trying to convert everything. Plus, my kids think the record player is really cool. Now, if only I'd kept my Walkman!

We have a few of the combo DVD/VCRs. We are trying to upgrade all our VHS tapes, but still have a few and play them. Right now dh and I are borrowing "All Creatures Great and Small" from my sister and watching on VHS.

We still have a VCR

But, truth be told ... we don't use it. And, in fact, it's not even hooked up and plugged in ... YET it still sits in the *entertainment console* because it hides the ugly wires from our cable box, DVD player, and TV, soooo we leave it there. And, it becomes a topic of conversation when we have guests over ... because they all think we're living in the dark ages having an old VHS VCR sitting there next to the TV.

We have this too! One of my dh's great ideas, saves so much space. (I collect books, dh collects DVDs )
