Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My gma taught me how to crochet when I was 7. Sadly I did not keep up with it but would like to learn how to knit (or relearn how to crochet)
right now I can not afford classes and do not have any family or friends nearby who can do either.
A couple years ago I picked up a really cheap book from Jo Ann fabrics about learning to crochet but ended up more confused than ever
SO does anyone have a suggestion for books or videos on learning to knit or crochet? Like "learning to knit for dummies?"
thanks!!
Suzette

Youtube has lots of videos you can watch for free. Very helpful for relearning- you can see how to cast on, etc.

Yes, I have a few recommendations. I always need refreshers. I really like the Kids Knitting and Kids Crochet, and the Klutz books for no nonsense help.

I learned from this book, and use as my reference all the time Reader's Digest Complete Guide to Needlework. It's a big book, and these prices are very good for a used book.

But in particular:

For Knitting:
Kids Knitting: Projects for Kids of all Ages. Although for "kids", very practical guide.

Knitting in Plain English, Updated Edition by Maggie Righetti. This is what my instructor swears by.

Knitting: Learn to Knit Six Great Projects

You might have fun with the The Mary Frances Knitting & Crocheting Book, even though for children.

For Crochet:
Kids Crochet: Projects for Kids of All Ages

Crochet: Learn to Crochet Six Great Projects (Klutz book)

Hope that helps some.

I second the suggestion for knittinghelp.com!!! Watching the videos there was so very helpful in the first year or so that I started knitting.

I snatch it up whenever I see it for cheap at the library and give it as gifts, especially for nieces learning to craft.
