Well.....it's that time. Many of you are moving or just moved or just had a baby or are about to have one.... but for those with no excuses (like me) what do you have planned?
I usually make up a colorful list with a general timeline we hope to follow the last three weeks of Lent. Then we can get right into it whenever there's time. It never gets done by Holy Thursday afternoon, but a lot of it does. We stop after that.
Another thing I try to do to streamline things is take the kids' ordinary chores and make them more comprehensive; I might give the vacuuming chore more places to vacuum, move the furniture, use the hose in the corners and on the tops of high furniture, etc. This really accomplishes a lot.
This year I have to take the sheer curtains down and wash them as clean all the ceiling fans. I also should try to get to all the mini-blinds.
One book I have recommends hiding coins in hard places to encourage deep cleaning

No spring cleaning plans with a basement and the rest of the downstairs to finish renovating! While you're dusting, I'll be painting!

Neat ideas, Mary, I'll have to try those!
Yesterday I linked from Michele's site to these Womans' Day spring cleaning checklists and 30 Days to a Clean House. I've printed them out hoping that I can work through them along with the older kids.

I love spring cleaning. I'm trying to do it room by room.
I grew up on it. When my mom converted, a dear old nun told her that you clean your house from top to bottom during Lent, just like your soul.
Oh my, we cleaned. We moved every stick of furniture and cleaned every drawer and closet. We hauled the mattresses outside to air in the sun and bags and bags of garbage to the curb.
I'm not quite up to my mom's level, but I'm workin' on it!

I that 30 day list . Since I don't have an attic or houseplants and I have done a few of the days already, I might be able to accomplish this before Easter...if I can motivate my troops. It's such a concrete list and the tasks are broken down so we could assign different tasks in the same room to different children...maybe? I hope...
It strikes me that this is a good list for the last trimester too. Everything would be in order before the baby came.

My plan was to have my home all de-cluttered, simplified and organized by now so I could concentrate on that more pleasant kind of cleaning ~ you know with beeswax polish, open windows and homemade herbal cleaners ... to make everything shine and smell like spring? I am still mired in the de-cluttering phase though ...
Are any of you doing special (or routine) spring cleaning as is tradition this week?

I think I could be inspired by beeswax polish and homemade herbal cleansers. Would you tell us more/share recipes?

Well, every now and then I pick up a magazine called The Herb Companion and there are always inspiring articles about using herbs to clean your home. We like to be careful about chemicals around here due to allergies/sensitivities as well as for environmental reasons.
Here are a few recipes that sounded good to me:
Lemon-Mint Window Wash
Carnauba and Lavender Furniture Polish
Spritz and Spray Toilet Bowl Cleaner
Eucalyptus-Mint All Purpose Cleaner
Grapefruit Abrasive Cleanser
As for the beeswax, years ago I picked up a wonderful lavender beeswax polish at a Waldorf school faire. It smelled soooo great and I liked the old-fashioned feel of it. The Carnauba-Lavender recipe above calls for beeswax ... and this place sells beeswax bricks, so I could start there ...
All of this of course will be done in my *spare* time ... What else do I have to do but plan and prepare dinner for 15 in less than a week!
