Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My dh likes me to use bleach when I wash his underthings. After one too many accidental splashes (onto favorite shirts of his and mine ), I am looking for alternatives. I need something that will provide the same whitening effects without the danger to the surrounding environment.

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried the gel-type bleach? WAY less danger of splashing (from someone who's splashed one too many times!).

White vinegar. It sanitizes just as well as bleach (at least, that is what I have read). I use it for all of our household cleaning and laundry. 1 c. to the washing machine, though, if you have an HE, that would probably be too much.

When we use it to clean, we do 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water.

You can google how to use it.

Seconding h2o2. I can't stand the smells of most cleansers, and I've been switching over to hydrogen peroxide after I read an article from ? group. (It is one of the Catholic ed. groups, as those are the only ones I'm on. )

Here and here are a couple of links that will, hopefully, help.

Back when I was working (nurse,) we always used hydrogen peroxide to get blood out of our uniforms (that was way back in the dark ages when nurses wore those white uniforms- think Dixie McCall for anyone who remembers "Emergency!")
