Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Out of curiousity... how much are you paying for pick your own berries? (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, etc.)

I just saw a price of $11/lb for blueberries. The place where we usually pick sells by the quart container and I'm not sure how that compares. But $11 sounds high to me.

My goodness...in our area we pick blueberries from 55 year old bushes...they charge only $1 per pound...the berries are incredible...the site is scenic and sheltered...when we pick in mid-August, it feels like we're on a splendid woodland vacation. Hope you find a place that's less expensive...blueberry picking is such a special treat.

Seriously, call the place and ask whether that's right! That price completely out of line with believability! (And please let us know what you learn - I am definitely curious).

Peace,
Nancy

Holy Smokes

We don't have blueberries here (too hot) but our Strawberries are $3 a container (maybe 1/2 gallon?)

That seems like A LOT!

We have a U-Pick blueberry farm in Michigan and will be charging $1.60 per pound (same as last year).

I would definitely double check the price.

Maybe I missed a decimal point. I'll check; thanks!

In case anyone has been on pins and needles, wondering if it really could be $11/lb ... it's not. It's $11/GALLON. Which makes more sense!

I wouldn't say I was on pins and needles, but I was very interested to hear the outcome. I just couldn't believe that some place would charge that much.

I was hoping you would let us know. I've never heard of selling them by the gallon. Now I'll be obsessed with figuring out how many pounds that is. A quart is usually about 1 and 1/2 pounds . . . . does that mean a gallon is 6 pounds? Hard to say for sure.

Anyways, a much more reasonable rate :)

The farm we've been picking blueberries this year is $2.50 a pound, and I think that's what I paid for strawberries last month at another farm also.

when we lived in Ga, the farm we picked strawberries at sold them by the bucket - you used their buckets to pick and it was about $6.50 a bucket and then you dumped them into your own boxes or bags to take home. I can't recall how big the containers were but I'm sure it's much faster to just charge by the container than have to weigh.

I am way late seeing this (too busy selling berries....) but FWIW, we charge a dollar a pound for our blueberries and strawberries. Blackberies are .85 a pound, and raspberries were $1.10. Those prices are for pick your own.
