Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've been making our own laundry soap for several months now....I love the savings! but lately I've noticed a lot of our clothes have developed these tiny holes in them...it's pretty much all been in the boys clothes I think, so maybe this is just a coincidence. They are very hard on their clothes! But it seems like it's happened in several shirts at once, as well as a few cotton type shorts. Anyone have this problem? Think it's the soap or just a coincidence?

I presume the clothes are being fully rinsed? But then, everything I put in our homemade soap I also use to soak clothes in as items by themselves (even making a paste)...

Which ingredients and amounts are you using in your soap?

Oh, let me think...I always have to look it up...a bar of soap, 1 cup of washing soda and a half cup of borax, I use this to fill one of those big plastic paint buckets with a lid, what size are they, 5 gallons? about 3/4 of the way full, and I use 1/2 cup...regular sized washing machine, not a big one.

That's what we use... Now, we tend to use no more than 3-4 tablespoons (for heavy loads) when washing. But I would think that too much soap would be more of a rinsing issue than a hole-making issue... I'm not sure.

What kind of bar soap are you using?

Oh my, maybe I am using way too much. I always have a complex even with the half cup, like I'm not using enough.

Soap- I'd like to find some fels-naptha but I haven't found any recently...so usually I use Ivory. Once I used Irish Spring because it's what we had on hand, lol.

We don't personally use Fels Naptha because of some of the chemicals in it. We use Ivory or our own homemade bar soap (not the Simply Ivory - too strong of a scent for us!).
