Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

So, I have been thinking. St. Augustine is having that effect on me, this Lent.

I have been thinking. Since I am NOT getting to the piles of clutter in my house in a timely manner (some are years old...ugh).....I would/should institute a daily 10-minute challenge...till they are clear. Or, at least till ONE spot is clear.

I was wondering if any of you wanted to join me on a 31-day (month of March) daily 10-minute challenge.

List your spots of visible clutter.

Pick one.

Attack it till it is done.

I have alrady done this a few times this week on one spot.....and it is a least a third clean.

I actually do not have very many clutter spots in my house....I just have a few that NEVER dissipate.

My desk, dresser, hope chest and bedside table have been very unhappy places for a long time.

And, there is a spot in my laundry room.

I really need to clean up those areas...I cannot take it anymore.

So, I am challenging MYSELF, to ten minutes a day.

I will work ten minutes, at least.

I will not beat myself up if hardly anything gets done.

Or, if I miss it....though...I will even do it the last ten minutes before bed.

I will pick ONE spot and narrow it down till it disappears.

I will not let myself be distracted over other things needing to be done.....or worrying about the garage needing to be clean before I finish.

Do you feel challenged to join me?

I don't think I can join you.. but thought I'd share.. the worst pile of clutter is my desk.. every one uses it.. and 10 min a day might keep up with it but I wouldn't make any headway.

But that is a good idea.. someday when I find the oomph to get it cleared up.. that 10 min a day just might be the key to keeping up.

I will join you!   Brilliant idea!!!

Unfortunately I have more than a couple areas of clutter, but ten minutes - at least - a day is better than just looking at them every day.   This was one of my plans for this Lent, but I've been waiting for the Olympics to end.      I think I'll begin this Monday by making a list of the areas that need to be attacked.

I should join you...

To admit; my beside table drawer stuffed full of cards, children's drawings.
The corner shelves in the kitchen, so easy to just dump everything there. Batteries, mail, lego, rubber bands, pencils, hair bands... I'm sure you get the picture.

Mine is the top of the china cabinet. My husband keeps his brief case here and all the bills, but it also is where we put everything that we don't know what to do with. Another place is the countertop that is right behind our back door. All sorts of junk goes there. Both are clean tonight so I will try to keep them clean for the rest of Lent!

What a great idea!

I'll join the challenge.

I don't know if it is my "worst" spot, but it is one of the most visible ones: a counter between my kitchen and dining area. I actually had it mostly clean in January and it is covered again.

I'll start there today.

Hahahahahaha...

A professional organizer would give my house the worst possible rating (they have a rating scale).

I don't want to join this challenge but I think I need to.

my "breakfast area" table. in my dreams it's our "homeschooling table" where we will congregate after breakfast, doing our lessons together, quietly. in reality it is the DUMP table, where anyone and everyone puts whatever it is they don't know what to do with, leaving it up to mom to sort and put away. i admit i'm a huge contributor to the mess also. i am trying DESPERATELY to clean it off again today. it gets totally clean every couple of weeks or so, but not long enough to be used the way i envisioned it. major source of frustration for me.

Let's see now.... The kitchen desk; the study table; the table in the master bedroom; There are plenty other clutter piles, but these are probably the worst.

Peace,
Nancy

and the garage doesn't count?

Mine is my bedroom. We recently moved my parents in, and I moved my schoolroom into my bedroom (it is off the kitchen - like a servants ) So, from a 30 x 30 schoolroom of my dreams - to this.
I keep working on it.
But, there is just so much I can do.

I think I'll join you all! I have already begun the clutter clean up around here! I tackled my bedroom yesterday and cleaned out my "junk" drawer. I have a huge task ahead of me, but hopefully when my "clutter" is gone it will make cleaning easier, plus when things are uncluttered I feel better internally! I think my worst pile of clutter is my dinnng room table and other little tables throughout my house. They are piled high with books! I fear I must donate some of my books. Oh well, detachment is good for the soul.

Admittedly I'm not off to a good start.

I have found that vertical surfaces attract clutter much less than any that are horizontal.        Like I said, I haven't made much progress yet.

Anyone successful?

I have cleared a large portion of my counter. Yesterday afternoon we had some friends over. Five children decided to use the newly cleared counter to make "ladybug habitats" or at least what they thought a ladybug habitat should be. I ended up with 5 plastic containers with water, shells, rocks, sticks, hay, etc. spread over my previously cleared space.

I'm sure they think I cleared that spot just for them :)

My kids cleared it off last night -- I am back to where I was. whew!
