After reading a few threads about eating locally/seasonally, I have a desire to begin our garden and plant seeds.
I have also read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. I fell in love with this idea and would really love to try it out on a small scale beginning with a garden.
We plan to be in our new home this spring and I have all I need to begin a large garden...except seeds.
Where do you order your seeds?

oh in your area (general that side of the US ) I've heard really good things about Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds
Being out here in OR I'm going to mostly buy from Pinetree Garden Seeds
But for chiles I'm buying from Hatch Chiles dh really likes that style of chile.. we just have to decide between the milder (still spicy) or more spicy ones.
And I don't know if I'll do it this year or not.. but I want purple asparagus (you can buy the roots and save a year)

I order some seeds locally from Ed Hume Seeds which specializes in the Pacific Northwest climate
Also, I've ordered from Territorial Seed Company. I've been looking through their catalog the last week planning what we will grow.

here's a post i wrote 2 years ago with a link to all my faves. i also provide a link to Garden Watchdog's reviews -- i check those before ordering, some companies have changed hands over the years or have changed the way they deal with folks (ie, shipping, return policies, etc.).
i also used to trade a lot at the gardenweb seed exchange, but i stopped because i wanted to concentrate on heirloom and organic seeds. when i did that i started with $20 worth of seeds, then grew my collection to include a couple of hundred varieties.
this year i'm placing an order again with Fedco, and ordering for the first time from Botanical Interests. I've bought BI seeds before but only off the racks. and then supplementing with plants from Natural Gardening Company, where I've gotten plants the past 3 years.

Hi ladies,
We thought you might like to know we own and run an heirloom and open-pollinated seed company: St. Clare Heirloom Seeds. We carry a large variety of seeds. Our other products include a nice selection of books on gardening and country living, as well as blank seed envelopes for saving your own home-grown seeds!
We have been building the website ourselves, so we do not have the descriptions in for ALL of our seeds yet, but they ARE available for purchase. We are working like crazy everyday to get the descriptions in. It takes a lot to build good informative product info without just copying another's work. So please have patience with the fact that not all the descriptions are there as of yet!
So, for those of you who like to garden, here is a seed source, owned and run by a Catholic homeschooling family. Please tell your family and friends who like to garden about us, too.
God bless, and Happy Gardening!

Hi Pilgrim,
Luckily I forgot to order any pepper seeds from the Heirloom place, so I'll be giving you guys a try! Your website looks very nice....wish I hadn't already ordered my seeds for this year, but maybe I can find some other things on your site than just peppers. Oh, and those seed saving envelopes look like a good idea...all my saved seeds from my Black Krim, Chocolate Cherry and Branywine tomatoes are still on coffee filters on my dresser

Hi cm4,
Thank you for the compliment on our website. It has been quite an adventure building it from scratch! This whole business has been neat though, because my husband and I have been able to work on almost every aspect together, we have really been a team on this. And that is where it all began, our mutual love for gardening. The first year we were married we used to sit in our lawn chairs and "watch the garden grow" each evening, to the peaceful sound of the sprinkler "tick, tick, ticking". So this business has been really neat for us.
The seed saving envelopes were dh's idea. I was really excited about the idea. These are the same envelopes/packets we sell our seeds in. They work really nicely, and he said why not sell them to our customers too? That's why God put two together in marriage, two heads are definately better than one!
