Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm looking for ideas about something that's been driving me nuts. My husband's wallet rubs holes in his pants along the bottom edge of the wallet. I have to buy him new dress pants and jeans way too frequently. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm wondering if a different kind of wallet would help? His is a leather wallet, and he has emptied it of any unneeded items, so it isn't any thicker than it needs to be.

Perplexed here!

We have this problem and I think it's just wear and tear. The only thing I can suggest is to have him not sit on it when he drives or is at work at his desk. This can be hard - my husband does not sit on his wallet while driving but does at work, since he wears a uniform, which lacks decent side or front pockets.

Wish I had helpful advice to offer, but I think the only solution is to not carry the wallet in a back pocket. Not easy.

I wonder if you couldn't slip an iron on patch INSIDE the pocket and then iron it on that way there's the patch between the wallet and the spot where the pants get worn out.

We've done that with jeans...doesn't work so well with dress pants, mostly because the fabrics don't match. (Strangely, no one makes patches in khaki polyester... )

I use iron-on interfacing to help maintain the strength on the pockets. I cut a strip and wrap it around the bottom seam, then just iron. Repeat as needed.

We had the same problem but my question was why did this happen to my dh and not other people we knew. I also noticed that his light colored (stone) pants didn't wear as quickly and was given the answer by my mil who is a seamstress. She said the dyes in fabric will weaken it. Since we have hard water, his navy or khaki colored pants were not wearable (for work) after 1 year or less. So, we bought him some new pants and I actually have them dry-cleaned. I don't like it, but he's had the same pants now for 2 years or more and they still look fine. He's very good about hanging them up so I find that I don't have to dry-clean them every time he wears them. We have saved money this way, even with the dry-cleaning expense.
(My husband works in an office and has to dress up every day.)

Your husband isn't the only one with this problem. My husband and I have the same issue. I use a wallet and it rubs a hole in my pants. Also, I carry my keys in my front pocket and get a hole there as well about the same time. I have been trying to switch which side I wear the wallet in and carry my keys in to see if I can make them last a little longer.
