We finally have a good out-of-the way spot that gets some afternoon sun in our house so I'm trying to do more line drying. I've been drying our diapers for a couple week and today hung up clothes for the first time--and promptly broke the rack. This is probably our third or fourth Target drying rack that has broken on us. Questions:
Recs for a good, sturdy drying rack that holds a lot of clothes?
Anyone know how much you save line-drying? My husband was watching me hang the clothes this morning and questioned whether this is really a good use of my time (we do have a dryer).

I have a cheapie one from Wal-Mart that I use for diaper covers. It's probably not much different than your Target one.
I don't know how much it saves to line dry. I do a lot of it outside in the summer. It does take a lot of time, though!
My sister-in-law uses drying racks over her heat vents inside during the winter. But she's a lot more dedicated to not using her dryer than I am.

I use Lehaman's racks, I've had them for 4 years now and they are used every winter for all the children's heavy snow things. I keep them next to the wood stove. I also use them in the spring/summer to dry towels and sheets on that don't fit on the line.

I don't know what kind of drying rack I have! I know I can hang wet jeans on it and it is plenty sturdy.
As far as savings, in the summer when I only use the clothesline our electric bill drops $30 every month. OUr heat is not electric, so I know the savings are from not using the dryer.

I don't know the brand of mine, if it even has one. It came from a TruValue hardware store and is fairly large. I also have a cheapie little one from WalMart that is only used for dishtowels and dishrags, so that they are dry before going in the laundry basket to await being washed. Don't like to be around cloths that have been dropped into the basket while still damp.

Lindsay....didn't you have an amazing link for drying racks???? You linked it in another thread, saying you were searching for drying racks and found XXX. I remember thinking it was so funny And, I remember drooling over those drying racks!!!!

I don't own any as yet, but my friend has these racks, and they are incredible! She dries most of her laundry on racks in her home.
Just about every kind of sturdy drying rack imaginable.

Addressing use of your time for hanging clothes to dry.
There are some items in particular that will dry especially well.. for instance.. denim dresses or skirt that the hem rolls when you dry them in the dryer.. shake them out good and smooth the hem flat when you hang them up to dry and you end up with a smooth flat hem. Even when I dry my denim skirts in the dryer.. I'll rewet the hem and then hang them up.  Alot of children's sleep clothes that in the dryer get all sticky and staticky.. come out soft on the clotheline.
If you pick and choose your loads.. finding things that dry quickly and things that do especially well on the drying rack.. and make your washer loads accordingly.. I can wash a load and fill the dryer, then wash a load for the clothes line (or rack) and then the dryer is done by the time the next washer load is ready for it etc. You can get laundry done quite a bit faster because you don't have to wait for the longer dryer time for each washer load.

I have a drier rack from walmart...it holds a load of kids clothes if I hang well/creatively. I bought two of them two years ago and they held up well, especially considering I keep them outside. I did lose one when my son decided to climb it!  I can't hang many big grown up clothes on them though.
