Hi, I was wondering if you all could help with something?

I have to make chili for 19 adults and 14 kids (all of the kids are under 5). How much would you use of grd beef, tomatoes and beans?

Right now I have
9 lbs beef
10 cans of beans -- the regular size (is that 15 oz?)
4 cans of crushed tomatoes -- the 28 oz size

I'm anxious that there might be not enough?
What do you all think?

Thanks for helping me out!

are the little guys even going to eat chili? I know I have some that don't.. I could my beans from dry so I just cook enough that those kids that don't like chili can have just plain "bean soup". I tend to go heavier on the beans and lighter on the meat.

Let me think..

3 cans of beans
1-2 lbs of hamburger
2 crushed tomato
1 tomato sauce

all the cans are your "normal cans" in the 15oz range. plus there's the beef broth in there and onion and spices.. that generally feeds about 6-8 adults

So you probably need about 4 times that right? You're a couple cans under on the beans, but have lots of hamburger.. looks like under on the tomato.. probably need about two more cans of tomatoes.

But how much beef broth do you add? or do you? that will make a difference. Also how meaty or beany you want it will determine how much of each you need.

You could make it up ahead.. chili actually gets better with a bit of aging.. that way you can always brown and add more burger or more beans or whatever after it's made if it's not enough.

Thanks Jodie!
We're going on vacation with a bunch of other families and I'm doing dinner one night next week. I have made it ahead, but you are right that chili is easy to add too so I'll do that. I think I am cutting it close as it is. . .

I don't usually add beef broth -- that sounds good! Literally, aside from the onions, garlic and spices, what I listed above is what I put in I think you are right about needing more beans and tomatoes.
Thanks for answering!

I made chili for 30 last week, and I think I used 8 lbs of ground beef, a #10 can of whole tomatoes, and two regular cans of diced tomatoes. I cooked the bean from scratch, so I'm not sure how much I used- maybe three or four pounds dry?

About a cup of chili powder. I filled my slow cooker and my big pot (both about eight quarts).

I have no idea how much to make, but we use tomato sauce rather than beef broth.
