At this topic, How often do you vacuum, Anne shared that she uses a Roomba. I'm going to do some research and want to know what the members here think of theirs? Thanks!

Love,

Hi Angie,
Anne here.
Can I tell you about mine?
I do love it. It does have some quirks though. I have the cheapest model available--that may not even be available anymore.

We have wireless smoke detectors so I don't use the virtual walls. I think they interfere with each other-the walls and the smoke detectors. When I use the walls in the rooms with the detectors, the Roomba just goes in circles. I am able to quickly find things to block the right amount of space to prevent him from going in certain areas so it isn't an issue for me.

I do run our air cleaners in the rooms after he kicks up all the dust and dander since the Roomba is not HEPA.

It does have a dirt detector and it is fun to see the blue light go on and him go crazy in an area.

I use "spot" a lot. To do a quicker job in the kitchen I will sweep into a pile, set him on it and he vacuums it all up. The way my kitchen is set up I do it in 2 sections. Saves some battery for another room.

I can do 2 rooms in a day if I don't forget about him. When he works upstairs I sometimes forget to get him and bring him back down to charge. Only one room those days.

I don't trust him with stairs. If it comes at it from the right angle the stair detection doesn't work so well. The way my house it set up I can work around it.

Because I have a lab who sheds at certain times of the year, if I haven't done a room in awhile I will empty the bin midcycle.

Overall, once you learn to work with it it is great. Not perfect but better than not doing it at all here.

I am looking forward to hear about others' robots. I am already planning my next one as mine is getting old and having had one, I don't think I can live without one.

Anne

You betcha . Thanks so much!

Wondering, do these vacuums only work on carpeting? I have mostly tile in my home.

Love,

I think if I got one of these it would explode on the first day from all the dog hair! I have to vacuum all the time with my dyson animal because our golden retriever is shedding SOOOOOOO badly. Actually, I have always wanted one, but I wasn't sure how they worked and the dog hair issue is a real one.

My dream is to own the one for hard floors that vacuums AND mops! The Scooba!!!

They are pretty pricey, and I don't have the guts to "beg" since there are many other things I would practically put on "the list" ahead of it, but if my husband brought one of those home to surprise me...well, be still my heart

Yes, Angie, they work on tile, hardwood and carpet. And it will transition by itself.
Jess, Mine hasn't exploded yet! I have a lab who sheds pretty bad too. Especially now I do try to empty it midcycle if I haven't vacuumed that room in a few weeks. I recommend it to everyone with a hairy pet

What would be the best kind (and cheapest) to get? Are they available in the UK?

Keep going as we are now considering this for our home.

I have to admit this looks like a "fun" gadget.. if it would actually keep up with my household.. it sure is tempting

I'm wondering if you need to sweep before using the Scooba...anyone?

No, Angie, the Scooba does it all. It sweeps, too! All in one pass (sweeps, mops, etc...)

Lindsay, I did it! Thank you for mentioning the Scoobe - I had no idea .

I purchased the Scooba, named her Martha, and I'm tickled pink! This robot is *perfect* for my home. We live in the hot, dry desert so any concerns about water left behind is of no concern for me. We have mostly tile so, once again, no worries there (it doesn't work on some flooring.) I found a coupon for first-time buyers at HSN and purchased it there. We've had it 2 weeks and I'm sold. Another complaint appears to be that it isn't durable - well honestly - if this thing lasts a year, it's worth it to me! But I went ahead and purchased an extended warranty from HSN which gets me to 3 years. I have figured out a good routine and run it daily, rotating throughout the house. This model (there are several models depending on where you buy it and what features you want ) runs for about 1 hour and 15 minutes on one charge, enough for me to do 1 main space (dining room and house entry) plus a small space (master bathroom.)

Roomba is next on my purchase list Thanks for you input, all!

Love,
