So I have read both of Nina Planck's books: Real Food and Real Food for Mother and Baby. Is there any "real food" resource for teenagers? I need a guide to what would be good for my rapidly growing not-quite-a-teen yet boy to eat, (as in, how many glasses of milk a day, really??) and I'd like to be able to share it with him so that maybe he will make better choices than eating half a box of Ritz crackers for a snack.

Waiting to see what everyone comes up with. Your ds sounds like mine. We've started calling him a Carbivore because of his diet. It's mostly carbs with a little meat thrown in. We can sometimes get fruit in, but nothing green shall pass those lips.

I gave Real Food to my 15 yr old as mandatory reading for part of health! Not the whole thing, though. Just the chapters that are foundational. Mine used to be a carbaholic too, but now consumes meat and vegetables, mostly.

My teenage son is a weight lifter, so it is tuna, peanut butter and hamburgers. Talk about expensive! And he can down half a gallon of milk in one sitting!

ditto.
my older sons, almost 16 and 13, tend to not care for carbs. or more specifically white bready type foods.
they make smoothies 1-2x per day, with whey protein powder added, lots of fresh fruits and veggies, and meat, meat, meat, PB, and tuna/salmon.
32 oz yogurt cartons in one sitting, and the milk (usually 2%, they are trying to keep weight on/gain!)
it is expensive.
maybe smoothies might interest your son?

Dh and I follow low carb diets, so I think that may have influenced ds's food choices after awhile. Its costing us a fortune. He eats me out of the house in lunch meat and cheese on big salads, and our whey powder is expensive for the smoothies, too. But the other side of that coin is that I can't really fault him for eating well, kwim? At least its not doritos all day long...
