My mom recently introduced me to Fels Naptha soap (after learning about it from a sil). I know many of you have mentioned it here as well. I really like it for laundry and hope to get more, but can't find it locally. The bar my mom got me she purchased where she lives and they don't have that grocery store here. I have searched at our three grocery chains, as well as Target, Walmart, and Whole Foods. No luck. I really would like a local source instead of ordering it and having to pay shipping. Where do you all get yours? Are there other stores that might carry it? Is it a large city vs. more rural issue (my mom lives in a rural area - we're in a large metro area)?

One of our stores is part of the Kroger chain - they don't have it, but maybe they would order it for me since it is carried in the kroger stores. Thanks. I'll have to ask.
I had seen that site - I'm hoping for a local sources - don't like paying 3 times more for the shipping than the soap...

check http://www.drugstore.com seems to me they often have deals so that you might be able to get out of the shipping.
Also Safeway here carries it.. as well as Thriftway. I haven't checked Rite Aid and they might.

Our Safeway stores here don't - this is why I'm thinking it might be a rural vs. large city issue.

Definately ask one of the stores though.. even if you buy it a case at a time.. I wouldn't think that would be too horribly many. And then you wouldn't pay shipping.

I get mine at ACE also. They'll order a case of 24 for you and it's cheaper that way. We were able to get a case for $32.02 tax included.

Great idea - I'll have to check there.
My mom is coming for our son's graduation next week and she is bringing sevearl bars, so I'll be okay for while - but I don't want to have to rely on the deliveries from Oregon .

Have you been looking in the sections of the stores that carry regular bar soap? The stores in our area stock it in bottom bins or shelves. In addition to being an excellent stain remover, Fels Naptha is recommended for washing skin that has been exposed to poison ivy and/or to help speed healing from a reaction to it.

Any other uses for Fels Naptha? I ordered some to use in laundry detergent, but if there are other uses (like the poison ivy use above), that would be a bonus! Also, does anyone have ideas about sources for Washing Soda? I had to order this online and pay shipping, so I don't think I'm getting the savings benefit of making my own laundry soap.

I purchased mine at our local grocery store in the detergent aisle. Even our military commissary had it.

Mary G, --is that $4.99 for one bar? I couldn't find any the other day at Weis, which usually has more basics than our local Safeway. I hope to find it somewhere without ordering, but I"ve never paid over $1.25 a bar in real life, usually somewhat less.
Peace,
Nancy

$4.99 seems a bit pricy. I have that exact bar and paid $1.33 per bar. That's with 8.25% sales tax added.
Definitely try Ace Hardware.

We are rural and I've always gotten it at our Nash Finch grocery store (SunMart). I was bummed that the price had gone up from $0.99 to $1.29 + tax (1.38!), which is the same price at our always overpriced "Do It Best" Hardware store.
I'm also disappointed at how hard it it to find Washing Soda, locally. Although available, it is so expensive that I'm not saving anything by making my own detergent anymore (compared to buying a bucket of cheap powdered detergent).
