I crocheted a shrug for my daughter's sleeveless Easter dress. To me, it looks old lady-ish and I don't know why. She loves it and my husband thinks it's adorable, especially with her short and spunky little bob. Is it just me and my preconceived notions? I have never been able to link a picture successfully so if this doesn't work, you can see it here on my blog.

It's old fashioned looking simply by being crocheted.. but I think it's much more a young child's shrug than an old ladies.

I think the ruffle is darling, and I think it is very cute! And she likes it. Lots of things that are crocheted have an old fashioned feel to them....but that isn't a bad thing!

Fixed your image links, Charlotte. I'll PM you, too, with the fix.

If she loves it, that's the most important thing...besides, you made it with love! I think she looks sweet.
Handmade items are making a comeback, anyway - your dd may be a trendsetter, and you haven't realized it yet. (My dd has her own unique style, often featuring giant t-shirts she has made into one-of-a-kind items , but her overall sense of what works is much better than mine. Perhaps your dd has an innate sense of what works for her.)
At my house, homemade purses are suddenly the rage. Since my fabric store now stocks dozens of different handles (most uncomfortable for me to hold, sigh), I have to assume that dd has stumbled upon this new fad at the perfect time.
Cherish this special Easter, with your daughter happily wearing her lovely shrug!

Charlotte, I forgot to say in my earlier post that I think the shrug is very cute on your young lady.
Oh, and do you want to know what I thought when I first saw the title of this thread Is this "young lady" or "old lady"?
...I opened it expecting to find this perception test:
What do you see? ...a young lady or an old lady?

OK, maybe it's the Mary-Mary thing, or the fact that we both have husbands named Rick, or that we both went to Gonzaga, or that we both had kids at Machebeuf, or that we both ....
BUT,
I agreed completely with MaryM ... the shrug is adorable and looks just sweet on your daughter ... and I too thought it was going to be one of those pesky perception test things!
Happy Holy Week and Easter, ladies!
