I've been spending to much time at the Crafty Crow and other craft blogs. Last night the kids and I stamped some cards to send to cousins, grandparents, aunts and uncles. I'm also working on a heart garland using my Cricut to make the hearts. I have to pull out some of my decorations from previous years.
For dinner, hmm, maybe steak???? Everyone loves that, a true 3 out of 3 some sweet potatoes and of course chocolate for dessert. Should we fondue or make a yummy cake......we made the Pioneer Woman's chocolate sheet cake on the Super Bowl...YUMMO!
We don't usually do gifts, but I did let my dh know about the cool new Brighton bracelet I admired on a friend.
Ds11 has a class down at the National Gallery of Art, we may also try to hop over to Archives and check out the Presidents Day fun if it is not to crazy. Of course there is also lacrosse practice that day too.......I guess the kids should be able to do the things they love.

Gramma will be in town and she'll probably take us all out to dinner. We don't normally do anything special though.

Dh (and me, a little bit!) organized the 3rd annual Valentine Mass/Vow Renewal/Date night for the Diocese.
We'll have Sat night (exactly on Valentine's day this year!) Mass at the Cathedral with the Bishop, then on to a beautiful new Catholic owned Winery for wine tasting, dinner, and lots of Door Prizes to enrich marriages- Books, Study Guides, CD's, Hotel Nights, Restaurant Certificates, even some jewelry!!
YIKES!! Over 110 couples coming to the dinner so far, and the numbers keep pouring in.
So with all this planning, sadly the kids get a little short changed. We usually do a nice breakfast with strawberries, and give them some candy. The boys have never been into Valentines, but Maria is really looking forward to it. Her birthday is tomorrow, so she thinks she is a Valentine Girl, LOL!! ;)

We'll be reading the picture book Saint Valentine by Robert Sabuda and doing the activities for the book set out in Catholic Mosaic. We'll also do the coloring page of St. Valentine found here: www.thesmartseedscompany.com/Activities.htm. You have to register at this site to download the coloring pages but its free.
Lisa, your Valentine's Day night sounds fantastic!

Our friends are coming over for dinner. The children will have pizza, a movie and games. I am preparing a new lasagna recipe, salad, and sauteed veggies (can you tell I love these). Maybe an antipasti before the meal and of course a good wine. I may bake a cake, but then again, I may purchase a gaudette or something simular at the bakers.
Lisa sounds like you have a wonderful evening planned! How lucky they are to have you and your dh!

Boy, I wish I was in Lisa's diocese! That sounds like a blast!
I can't get that coloring page to download, it keeps ending up in a blank screen.
We will probably make a nice dinner (my kids are requesting homemade fried chicken) with dessert (which isn't a normal thing around here). Husband and I have been praying this prayer every chance we get but especially on St. Valentine's feast day:
Heavenly Father, we ask You to guide our children in the choice of spouse. Don't let them be carried away by false charms or be fascinated by mere outward glamour, but guide their minds to look beneath and beyond all external attractiveness for the deeper things which alone are worth while. And especially let the choice be of one who is a fervent Catholic, true in thought and word and deed to those ideals which are Yours especially the value of their purity.
Dear Father of us all, give Your guiding help to our children, who are Your children too. We'll be letting them go soon, but please, don't ever let our children go from You. Amen.
St. Valentine, patron of romantic love, pray for us!

Charlotte,
Love the prayer. I have been pondering that sentiment for awhile now, thank you for providing me with something more concrete.
We are also going to read the St. Valentine book by Robert Sabuda, I'll probably take it to my CGS class and read it to them also. Maybe, I'll print out that prayer to share with the parents.
We don't usualy do anything special either. I want to try and mark our days a little bit more. The kids really got into making valentines last night, even ds8 and he was dreading it!

Where I live we have the custom of Jack Valentine, who comes and knocks onyour door, leaving presents. Our 5yo is a bit confused about this, Jack valentine vs St Valentine, but very excited! Apparently Valentines used to be a huge deal here, as much as Christmas for cards/gifts.

We keep it pretty simple. We make valentines to deliver to family and neighbors. The kids will play with scented red playdough, eat heart shaped pancakes for breakfast, get a few small treats (like Valentines pencils, candy, hair ribbons, etc). That's about it. DH is taking me to a waterfront restaurant for dinner while my M & FIL watch the kiddos.
